It's freaky that Gangnam Style is a decade old by this point; the years clearly went by faster than most would anticipate. Yet the late 2000's and early 2010's would spawn many trends and leave many contributions to modern pop culture, that society may be completely alien to us if this era never occured. Classic Chris peaked during the period, as did Minecraft, Call of Duty and the viability of youtube as a creator platform. The entire internet famous board has 2010's Youtube to thank for its existence.

This leads us to the question-at-hand: what was your favorite part about 2010's Youtube? What do you miss and what trends do you wish to never return?

You must be some kind of zoomer doomer.

Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of my epic fortnite tiktok hot chip nintendo switch mulatto perm dance off

When content wasn't at either extreme of being hours long "background noise" of people saying a whole lot of nothing or five jump cuts a minute obviously made for viewers with attention span issues.

HTTP was invented in 1989, that was pretty much the beginning of the end.
Yep. The internet should've remained restricted to academic and military use only. We wouldn't have anywhere nearly as many retarded hot takes posted online if we were still using terminal emulators and said hot takes took 24-48 hours to propagate through FidoNet.

While it would be interesting to see a timeline where the internet remained as a niche medium of communication we live in a timeline where Eternal September occurred which resulted in Usenet online culture being wiped away in a flood of new users.

History repeats itself though and the wave of people who got on the internet post-1993 up until around the early 2010s now find themselves lamenting about the current state of things and how much the culture has changed as new arrivals seem to try to make internet affairs more and more like real life much to their dismay. I am sure the whole spectacle is quite amusing to people who can recall the old Usenet days.

I have a YouTube channel where I used to upload a few random gaming clips. I got a comment the other month by someone who said "this video was uploaded 2 days before I was born". The video in question was from 2011... Shit like that is kind of incredible to me; some shitty YouTube video I made is older than someone's entire existence on earth.
