I have reasons to believe that the fugly lesbian Stephen approaches is actually meant to be Chris. Or at least a character inspired by Chris.
The cartoon was made right before Bob's death, so before the tomgirl saga hiatus.
Moreover, Harry Partridge is an avid fan of Chris and probably was fully aware of our autistic hero's antics at that time.

@WickedOneDFD was implying that Chris is lying about his hatred for his penis, and how he secretly does want penis-in-vagina sex. This is incorrect. Even if Chris does try to use his dick as a bargaining chip, that's the only use Chris can get out of it. He has very little interest in using his dick for his own sake.

The fetishization Chris displays concerning lesbian shit, like tribbing, is genuine. It's not just a front to secretly get straight sex. This post got me thinking: maybe the lesbianism may be - IN PART - fuelled by his... Maybe not DISAPPOINTMENT, but perhaps a realization that it wasn't really a life changer, after the hooker sex. Sex was supposed to be the most magic thing in the world, so if it wasn't magical the first time, maybe his dick was the problem?

I think he does want a sex change, but I think he's also come to accept that it's not going to happen. For one thing, he's stopped using the phrase "ugly growth."

That would seem to be neccessarily true if his claim that he has been a supressed woman all along is true.

To put a more positive spin on the same hypothesis: Chris has surpressed sexuality/gender issues. At that point, he had never had sex, so it was easy for him to say "well, I assume when I have sex, I will like the normal kind." He has sex, doesn't particularly like the normal kind, and begins to consider other genders/sexualities.

Although I am not particularly convinced by either hypothesis. Your hypothesis requires him to blame himself and not the hooker. My hypothesis requires a lot of self-reflection. It seems more likely his gender issues arose from something different.
 
I think the gender issues developed largely because (wait for it) Chris has autism. Not just autism, but rampant, unattended autism with absolutely zero meaningful therapy (ass pats do not count). Chris is the autism equivalent of a feral child. Some kids are raised by wolves, Chris was raised by Sonic and Pokemon. I've read that gender identity can be a very nebulous concept to people with autism. That must have been greatly magnified with Chris, who had absolutely no therapy. STRAIGHT MALE was a label he gave himself rather than who he was. It's what was expected of him by Hoardy and Skeletor. Chris is just latching on to whatever identity will give him comfort. He likes to play dress up, and STRAIGHT LESBIAN MALE WOMAN SOUL lets him do that.
 
I don't think there's any one cause that Chris' gender-bending can be put down to. Gender identity issues arising from autism is probably a major one. The rampant misandry that makes him think all men are psychotic brutes coupled with the rampant misogyny that makes him think that women have an easy ride is another. A lot of people have said that it's a ploy for china, which I think it is, but not as a central part of it. And I'm pretty sure there's a fetish element to it.

But I also think it's a form of escapism. "Christine" is, functionally speaking, not Chris. "She" is a separate identity that allows Chris to leave behind the shittiness of his life. Chris is a dumpy loser, Christine is a sexy lady who's the life of the party. I was once chatting to a couple of drag queens at a party and one of them said that what makes it so fun is that the drag queen identity has the ability to "misbehave" in a way that a regular guy couldn't without getting the shit kicked out of him. Similarly, a lot of people go into acting as a way of escaping their own identities and taking on more exciting ones. If you were Chris, wouldn't you just love the opportunity to leave it all behind?
