Sorry, I just said something similar in his thread, but...

I believe he had the book set as a free download (by accident). If this was a legit dmca, and took @Null to court, wouldn't he have to prove that he suffered financially?
Nah, copyright applies regardless. Although claiming damages gets a lot harder if you can't demonstrate any losses.

It's funny because if he had the ability to just fill out a standard fucking DMCA, post a link to where the book is allegedly hosted on the farms, and not be Russel Greer; Null would probably be legally obligated to act. But he couldn't, and he didn't, and now everyone is laughing at him.

What copyright did we even violate? Is mentioning the title and content of a book now a violation?

Should every bookstore employee/librarian in the country be sued because they recommended a product to a customer?

There was a link posted somewhere at some point to a full pdf rip of the book, and that's the sort of thing the DMCA can actually be applied to.

The site itself is protected by safe harbor. That said, individuals posting infringing materials can (and have) be sued without a takedown notice as they do not have those protections (fair use still applies).

With the legal mind of Russ 'fuck me or I'll sue you' Greer at the helm, I doubt there's too much risk.

Seriously. Like for as many cows as have harassed the farms, I can't remember a single correctly filled out DMCA. Maybe there were a couple. Maybe.

People are just dumb, I guess.
