2018 Oscars - Predictions, live reactions, and the (hopefully) messy aftermath.

Didn't people get salty and lose their shit because An American Sniper was nominated for an Oscar, and the subject matter offended people? Because if An American Sniper was enough to make people lose their shit- I imagine they would have reacted the same if Billboards did win.

It did?

All I remember are the people salty that Birdman, a well done, unique film that had pretty much universal praise won Best Picture over American Sniper, the popular choice amongst a niche audience...

This scenario seems kind of familiar...

On Tumblr they did. I have a vague memory of it and it was so annoying. They were offended that An American Sniper was even nominated for an award. Something something American war propaganda. Considering they're that dumb to rant that much about Sniper I'm pretty sure they'd rant about Billboards too.
The whole thing was eye roll worthy. Edit: I did a quick search. They were offended because the guy shot Muslims in the war. So apparently the film didn't deserve praise or an award.

Three Billboards was great, I like movies that try to present the reality of the situation and don't make anyone an outright hero or villain, especially when it's based on a real story and commentary on something like the police force. I'm seeing Shape of Water tonight, so I'll see how it compares, but it looks pretty good...if a little low-key and innocent in comparison.

Honestly, I think the movie world needs another Clockwork Orange. Something that will shock the politically correct climate we live in, and allows people to draw their own conclusions, presented in a clever and satirical way. Plus the lolcow flailing would be a glorious side effect.

Someone told me the Oscars for best picture was between

A movie about a women doing bestiality with a mirelurk king from fallout
A movie about homosexual cucking underage teen behind the girlfriends back
A movie about black people getting shit on by white limosine liberals

I'm surprised the last one even got nominated.

Oh and in other news:

Lol they were wildly optimistic with the last two.

It was always between:

Troy McClure, but it's a girl
Momma gets pissed off
Gary Oldman overacting
or
Daniel Day Lewis overacting.

Ripley kicking the arses of a race of extra-terrestrials better than the men? Sure!

Even the little girl outsurvived the men. Plus, the woman Marine was the most badass of the lot and on top of that, got the best line in the movie.

Hudson: Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
Vasquez: No. Have you?

He shot terrorists.

I note that even SJWs equate terrorism with Islam.

Chris Kyle was a walking checklist of everything leftists hate. I recall when that movie came out, Michael Moore opened his fat flabby mouth to call all snipers cowards.

I honestly feel bad for Taya Kyle, having to see people spit about how her husband was a deranged murderer.

I agree with you completely. I was actually thinking about A Clockwork Orange in comparison to Three Billboards earlier. Alex and Dixon are both bad people that have sympathetic moments, but Alex is, in my opinion, given way more scenes that make him look sympathetic than Dixon is given in Three Billboards. Alex is also an actual rapist and murderer who is very intelligent and manipulative while Dixon is a brute who beat some people up and is kind of dumb and easily influenced. A Clockwork Orange is much, much less controversial than it was back when it came out (and for a more recent example, so is Natural Born Killers which features protagonists a hundred times worse than Dixon) so it baffles me that Three Billboards is even on the outrage radar for the couple sympathetic moments it gives to this character.

However, I don't think even a shot-for-shot remake of A Clockwork Orange would spark outrage like this right now. It's entirely the "racist cop" aspect that's causing the exceptional tantrums. Racist cops are a current political issue that people are angry about, so how dare this film include a racist cop character without making him a cartoon villain and having the words BLACK LIVES MATTER superimposed on the screen for the last half of the movie. If this exact same movie came out 10 years ago no one would have given a fuck.

Also, I'm sad I, Tonya didn't get more attention. I'd have picked it over most of the Best Picture nominees. That movie really hit me hard, especially
the final scene where they contrast her time as a skater with her time as a (failed) boxer. Very powerful depiction of her downfall.

I'd like to see him call this motherfucker a coward.

Did anyone else find the large lady that they had screeching ('singing') at some point much more traumatising and horrifying than the evil Hollywood racism?
That shit will be in my nightmares.

I thought it was a pretty good show despite Kimmel bombing most of his jokes. So glad Get Out only won one Oscars

Autistic rambling here but how the fuck did "The Shape of Water" win an Oscar. I mean it was a fine movie but it wasn't anything great the story was generic the characters all just stereotypes and while it had some nice elements there was so much to that movie that you could of cut out and not changed a thing.

For example the scene where the old neighbor tries to date the Diner guy. It was obvious that he was gay to begin with why have big blaring lights with the words "He wants to suckle on some penis". Ontop of that why have the whole song in the middle I know it's supposed to signify "Oh she cares about fish dick so much" but that was show to us by all her other actions. Like I dunno RISKING HER LIFE TO SAVE HIM AFTER BREAKING DOWN TO THE NEIGHBOR ABOUT HOW MUCH SHE CARED ABOUT HIM

I dunno I'm just a film student and not even a good one but if I can see the issues in this I figured a director as acclaimed as Del Toro would of.
