He’s earning his money by allowing crap like this. If he really pushed back hard and said 100% absolutely not, he’d be fired and we’d hear about how brave Brianna fired the mean man consultant sent by Steve Bannon and Gamergate.

If he’s really good he’s documenting all the craziness and how many times they’ve tried to tell her no on her stupid tweets and emails so that if she tries to pull that when she loses there will be enough to write s book on all the crazy.

He's two years too late with the Russian bot and Last Jedi whining. First it was Russian bots, then the haters, then mysogynists and racists, and when they learned the word "incel" that's immediately what the blame turned towards. Idk what his stupid ass is doing at step 1.

The Last Jedi was a poorly-written pile of shit that required the following movie to spend most of its runtime fixing it. And if this idiot even tries to defend Disney in this, I hope he knows just how much of progressive paragons of virtue Disney are, when they go editing out same-sex kisses for eastern countries.

the "more than half" claim sounds like bs, so here's the paper in question: Weaponizing the haters: The Last Jedi and the strategic politicization of pop culture through social media manipulation. full text.

the author only looked at tweets “@rianjohnson” between 13 December 2017 and 20 July 2018, selecting 967. the paper says "Russian" fifty two times and has 400 words devoted to 2016 election happening, but as for the presence of russian bots in his study- "Sixteen of these 33 troll/sock puppet accounts appear to be Russian trolls" out of an identified "206 negative accounts" identified as bots (making robo-ruskies .017% of sampled accounts). "more than half" is an arbitrary umbrella that encompasses all negative comments deemed to have political motivation.

NYT repeats this as "And a recent study by Morten Bay, a University of Southern California digital media researcher, revealed that over 50 percent of the venom directed on Twitter at Rian Johnson, director of “The Last Jedi,” came from the same sources as Russian election meddling."

I was about to do an effort post chopping up how shitty this paper is, but then I saw both the paper's author and the journalist have acknowledge the fuckup on twitter

if anyone can see around NYT paywall, let me know if they changed it yet, because the error is still up from what I can see. also the researcher guy's twitter is a giant tantrum over people hating the new movie, doesn't strike me as the impartial sort.

That's just how the mainstream do. Look at how many times bullshit pop-science has been debunked, including the piece this very article is referencing, only to appear a few months down the road after everyone has forgotten about the initial outrage. Hell, look at how long that one blatantly fake study about black women in porn and how their assholes are a window to the ghetto. Supposed scholars read that and thought it was suitable for publication in a peer reviewed journal.
