You're right that this is all very shaky ground, but it's not like Capcom has garnered a particularly good reputation for the last 12 some years with their audience and the video game public. For as much as it sucks that getting targeted with ransomware, it couldn't have happened to a better company, and I mean that in a nice way. It's not like they're particularly drowning in debt and losing money bleeding out to death, but this is a wake up call for them to realize that life isn't fucking around and no amount of litigation is going to scrub out the egg on their faces, pushing out good output will. Its a shocking revelation but asshole corporations like Capcom don't let meaningless things like rights or what the law actually says get in the way of getting what they want. My two cents on this is if their corporate headquarters in Japan bothered to send this, then they mean it, and any responses should be done with the eye it will be brought up in court.
Capcom honestly shouldn't be playing it stupid and thinking they are just merely another company. If they could, they could outshadow Square Enix and Konami if they tried. And they honestly shouldn't be fucking around with an overseas website that allows for these affairs to be freely discussed. Didn't they make a video game about the internet and how its "underworld" was essentially untouchable because it was a necessary evil? I think the last thing they'd want is a PR Nightmare, if they know what's good for them.
tl;dr GO SUCK YO MOMMAS MILK JAP-CAPMAN
