In early August 2023 in Hawaii a series of wildfires broke out predominately on the island of Maui. The wind was gusty and the fires spread relatively rapidly. The town of Lahaina was heavily effected by the flames and was completely devastated.

Before and After photos of Lahaina, Hawaii:

Footage of the fire:

There has been much discussion over the cause of the fire and the response to it by local authorities. There is also talk of potential land grabbing taking place, direct energy weapons being involved, and inadequate government assistance.

The death toll is expected to double, perhaps even triple.

This private information is unavailable to guests due to policies enforced by third-parties.

A&N thread here, from August 9th, when they still thought it was only 6 deaths. Feel free to post in either thread, depnding on where your favorite or most hated users are. -Haramburger

Death toll as of writing this is 101 people, according to the governor.

Also, apparently Biden and Kamala are planning to visit the scenes of the fires. I bet he falls over at least 3 times, and that’s being generous.
Death toll count I'm using is from a fatality update from Maui county officials. Not like it matters all that much anyway since it will go up without a doubt sadly.

I won't be surprised if Biden and Harris somehow get themselves into a public relations mess when visiting Maui. To be fair though it will be hard to somehow do worse then giving out only $700 in immediate aid to effected victims of the disaster.

Fixed it. Also, I agree with the Biden shit. I really do think they are going to fuck themselves in some way by going there.

Unlike Hurricane Katrina, this disaster seems to have started before the fires really took off. This didn't need to happen. Not sure if true but I read that the initial fire was "put out" but flared back up.

Very likely botched or intentional. We'll know in a year or two if the likes of Blackrock or a Cuomo brother end up buying all the scorched earth.

Worth noting the Feds just announced that they plan to buy up all the land burnt in the wildfires for dirt cheap which seems suspicious but I'm sure there's nothing to see here.
Can anyone confirm? Cause this shit is like something i would see on /r/conspiracy or /x/.

edit:
The state, not the fed.

I'd bet money these fires aren't from "global warming", but due to that invasive Pampas grass outbreak Hawaii has been fighting since forever. They planted some of that in a flower garden next to the hospital I used to work at, and one cigarette lit the whole patch up. They grow these seed pods that look like feathers and they're pure fire fuel. They produce a lot of dry litter that corkscrews around the bottom of the grassy clumps too, and that stuff will burn out of control with a single spark.

Oh shit, Ghost of Tsushima was right about that grass.

They all had a standing offer from Oprah to sell, most of them were holdouts.
Well, were...

I was gonna start this thread but was unable to do so until I was free. This shit is only gonna get worse as the bodies are recovered and the full scale of the disaster becomes known.

It seems that the Hawaian authorities, from local municipal officials all the way to Fed representatives all fucked up hard and made what was gonna be a annoying fire into a disaster. The main question now seems to be what the division of the blame is between corruption, malice, incompetence and midwits worship of protocol and procedures over reacting to what is happening.

Some local news reports on these issues:

A State Official Refused To Release Water For West Maui Fires Until It Was Too Late

The fight over water is nothing new on Maui. But the impact on the county's ability to battle fires is coming clear.

Was Maui’s Emergency Operations Chief In Over His Head?
https://www.civilbeat.org/2023/08/was-mauis-emergency-operations-chief-in-over-his-head/
Herman Andaya lacked formal experience in emergency response but beat out 40 other applicants for the job and says he was prepared.

The current death toll is not final and even the local fed and government is saying so, they are merely only listing people they found the bodies. Chances are simply that anyone who is still missing by now is either a carbonized skeleton or one of the poor bastards who fled into the ocean and eventually drowned. Absolutely horrific fucking shit.

I wonder if this is going to stir up separatist sentiment among the native Hawaiians. There's already a small but pretty vocal minority which advocates for the restoration of Hawaiian sovereignty prior to the U.S.'s illegal overthrow and annexation of the Hawaiian kingdom. Having their ancestral capital burned to the ground over federal and state incompetence (with a non-zero possibility of malice involved) immediately followed by attempts at wealthy mainlanders to buy up the cinders sounds like the fertile soil for anti-US sentiment. It wouldn't surprise me one iota if the Feds are taking that into consideration regarding the clampdown on information taking place. Not saying such an attempt would be successful, but it could cause the Hawaiian sovereignty movement to expand its reach among the locals.

$700 dollars per person effected (in this example, let's assume it's everyone on that island)from the fires, is $117,814,900 total.

How much did we give the Ukie oligarchs to buy villas in Spain?
Did they change it? I thought it was per household
With how giddy the local government is to do a land grab the Army Corp of Engineers aren't coming. They're going to be left for dead so some stupid Globohomo shit can be built. They will build entire cities for Sand Niggers but God forbid actual Americans needing that help.

It probably is, I'm just saying each individual for arguments sake. It just goes to show how little they care about people. .

They are playing fuck-fuck games with the body count and missing lists. Right now this google doc being used by people to try to find and track missing people. There's rumblings that it may be pulled for HIPPA violations, and that a public list is no longer necessary now that responders are on scene (and doing fuck-all other than spin and image management)

They are slow rolling the body count for damage control. It's either that, or they're so fucking incompetent that somehow only 3-6 bodies are being pulled a day from what is a fairly compact and contained area.

While it would be nice, us Native Hawaiians are only about 10% of the population of the state. Many of the people involved in the sovereignty movement have academic, government or NGO sinecures. As a movement it is completely captured and more or less LARPing at best, and actively undermining any real political change at worst.

People are mistaking the FEMA directive. It is not per person, it's per household. Which means it is actually less, and a lot less if you lived with family.

It is quite literally worthless. It won't buy shit, it won't provide for shit. It is, quite literally, less than what the USSR paid to the people they kicked out of Pripyat over Chernobyl. Which is a impressive figure to reach: less competent than the USSR bureaucracy.

Though to be fair, I don't think this is meant to be a one time thing, like how Norfolk Southern tried to get locals in East Palestine to sign their rights to sue and demand help away with a one time 200$ voucher. But the US Government really needs some good PR and this shit is really not fucking helping, especially as they are printing money to help banks and sending billions to Ukraine.
