Nothing in history happens by accident and if it does then it was planned that way. I don't think the average aloha diversity hires moron had a scheme or was even in on it.
What did occur however was a perfect storm that created a perfect opportunity. When you had the regulations against agriculture during the 70s thru 1990s destroy many of the sugarcane, and other tropical fruit plantations on Maui dry brush grass took it over. Also you did have overgrazing occur as the land ranchers could graze on became smaller and smaller as billionaires bought huge mega 1000 acre mansions on Maui. In the 80s thru 2000s. This making things worse and pricing out the farmers and ranchers on the Island. A massive wildfire that kills or destroys most of the people who refused to sell land to billionaires does get those thinking caps on.
Tldr - governments never let a crisis go to waste.

I was at a Panda Express last year a month after the Russian/Ukraine conflict started and they were collecting money for Ukraine. I'm indifferent about the conflict but think it sucks for the innocent citizens affected and wasn't going to donate, but I wondered the same thing.

If you really feel like donating to a cause, just do it directly.
