2023 Hawaii Wildfires - Fire burns down part of island, currently 106 dead, 1,300 missing. Maui - wowie!

Mass texts go out to all cell phones in Hawaii saying that missiles are in flight. It turns out that part of the alert system doesn't have an option when you can immediately generate an on the fly mass text notifying of false alarm, that's going to take some time.

Knew a guy who worked for HiEMA at the time in a different sector. He said it was like a tomb in the headquarters. Everyone knew how badly shit had been fucked.

But wait, here's where it gets better. They immediately reached out to the governor to send out a Twitter post. Motherfucker forgot his password and was locked out of his account. They reached out to the police to see if they could drive around and use their cruiser loudspeakers. Nope, half the force was either dealing panicked civilians or had decided to fuck it and go home to their families. Also both the landline and cell phone network crashed, making all communication for an hour impossible.

That bodes well for the AAR of this shit show. My God, the police had officers just go AWOL? Over a complete nonsense nuke warning that common sense would show to be extremely unlikely to be true? Just ditched badge and wouldn't even pay attention to news? Man, talk about spineless.

Means. Motive. Opportunity.

They don't hire cops for their brains here, they hire them on their willingness and ability to subdue a 300 pound 6'3" Samoan having a meth induced psychotic break. Some might say, intelligence is actively being selected against.

Besides the majority of people had either lost their shit, or, like me, were dealing with people actively losing their shit. Oh, the stories I could tell you of that day! I envy my mother who slept right through it all.

My assertion was simply that underlying separatist sentiments could grow in prominence among the local population, especially with the Native Hawaiians.

Even the Native Hawaiian independence groups can't get their shit figured out. There's like a handful of groups that all claim to be the rightful successor to the throne and they've all had got some sort of corruption or beef with someone so it never picks up any steam. The TMT protests also brought some fracturing among people still stuck in the past and people wanting to look forward.

Hawaii has also had their own dedicated Office of Hawaiian Affairs since the 70s, and I honestly can't think of anything noteworthy they've done.

Your a cop in a deep blue state that hates cops working for a government that would toss you under a bus in a split second if you killed a dindu.
Your likely low IQ since your still working there. You think a nuke is incoming.

Would you stay and guard the local mall that is about to be vaporized?
Or would you go home to be with your family in your final moments?

Because the Governor of Hawaii during a press interview on Maui said the land burned could be turned into Workforce homes.
A large chunk of it already was working-class homes, along with commercial and tourist areas. Starting a wildfire to build similar homes in its place while gutting a major money-maker for the area as well as where the services for your resort region to the north was located makes negative sense.

It's about who owns the land.

It makes sense if you're evil.

Incredibly, unbelievably fucking evil. Which these people clearly are.

I'd bet money these fires aren't from "global warming", but due to that invasive Pampas grass outbreak Hawaii has been fighting since forever. They planted some of that in a flower garden next to the hospital I used to work at, and one cigarette lit the whole patch up. They grow these seed pods that look like feathers and they're pure fire fuel. They produce a lot of dry litter that corkscrews around the bottom of the grassy clumps too, and that stuff will burn out of control with a single spark.

Invasive grasses are indeed being partially blamed for making the fires much worse. In this article they mention several other invasive grasses, but not Pampas grass (Cortaderia).

- 25% of Maui is covered in out-of-control invasive grasses
- sugar cane farms have been shut down since the 1990es and left unmanaged
- the massive fire hazard potential has always been well known, but nobody really gave enough of a fuck to implement counter-measures (such as grazing or creating fire breaks), probably because people on Hawaii are either billionaires on vacation or tweakers.

So scores of children and elderly have been either killed through negligent homicide or straight up murdered in the name of mansions and bugpods.

And by this point, I'm convinced nobody will do shit and I'm not holding my breath for any justice. I hope Oprah and Zuck enjoy the new homes and servant quarters they get from the literal fire sale
