I know exactly where you're talking about, actually. What I meant is that the state GOP political apparatus are almost all never-Trumpers to a man, along with most of the elected reps. Just a few years ago the party tore itself apart over the issue of Trump, which hasn't helped their electoral efforts to say the least. The rank and file on the other hand? Well, let's just say it's complicated. I support the guy and know plenty of people that do. At the same time, Trump's whole style really goes against the grain of local values in how a person of power and influence is supposed to conduct themselves and some people just can't put that aside. Heck, I find him crass. I'll admit it. But his opponents are evil. I'll choose crass over evil any day. I just wish he wasn't so damn feckless and trusting when he actually has power.

Let me boil down the remaining base of the Republicans in Hawaii. First off, there's military and retired military. They tend to be concentrated around the bases here. There's the Mormons, who are geographically concentrated along the East side of Oahu. They tend to play both sides of the political divide and are often lukewarm about Trump or openly hostile. There's the evangelicals scattered about everywhere, but they're completely politically ineffectual. Then there's folks like me, the remnants of the Home Rule Party Hawaiians from the countryside who signed up with the Republicans along with Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole back in the territorial days and just sort of stuck with it because tradition and we find egalitarianism vaguely distasteful.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the devastating wildfires across Maui are a classic toxic combination of liberalism, corruption and inexperience all rolled into one.

The people of Maul begged for life-saving water from the West Maui stream to be used to fight the fires only to be brushed off.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Wednesday there was an official request made to divert the water and it was ignored for several hours by Deputy Director M. Kaleo Manuel of the Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM). We are also learning some infuriating details about Manuel’s background.

The paper obtained a letter from Glenn Tremble with the West Maui Land Company who dropped some damning details regarding the fire’s chronology. The fire was contained at 9 A.M. local time but troubling weather conditions and low reservoir levels led them to make the request for stream water to store as much water as possible for fire control.

The reservoirs needed to be filled by 1 P.M. Instead, Manuel waited until 6 P.M. and the once-contained fire completely exploded.

Emergency Management in most cases is just a do-nothing job for politically connected. All they do is go to meetings and fly around to conferences to meet with other tax leaches.

In my state the departments (they have multiple regions all with duplicate personal) can be traced back to the old cold war Civil Defense department. When they had air raid systems, fall out shelters, and lots of other assets to manage. All that stuff is gone but their headcount hasn't shrunk at all. We don't get hurricanes or tornados. Speaking of fallout my local EM dept still puts out paperwork and has staff to manage an accident or attack on our nuclear plant... that's been shut down for years.
