2023 Security Check-up Reminder

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
A good rule is to ask yourself is if what you wrote is something you'd be fine sharing with your immediate family and close friends. My record here is 100% clean in that regard.
indeed, my irl friends and family know damn well what i'm like.
and shit, sometimes i tell them about the misadventures of particular lolcows.
its all good, lol

Same, if my coworkers, family or friends saw my shit on here they'd laugh their asses off. I just have a very strong verbal and written wit and I use a very literate register to make it happen.

I sincerely hope most other Kiwis have enjoyed my humor.

What's anyone's comparison of using a Raspberry Pi as a pi-hole and then treating it as a secondary router, versus just directly getting a router that can take custom firmware and using DD-WRT or Tomato so that the router is what is connected to a VPN, to avoid the complete unreliability of most so-called "deadswitches" that often don't work.

This feels like "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear".

I think there are many in my life who simply wouldn't understand this particular online persona of mine or why I would willingly associate with thought criminals such as yourselves. They just aren't of the right generation or backgrounds to understand this forum.

Accordingly, I have a password safe that my immediate family will find instructions on how to get to, and I have another with a load of accounts that will just stop posting one day. Nobody gets to know all of you anyway, isn't it nice to have secrets?
You Sound like a grimy ass motherfucker

Yep, I like KeepassXC for desktop and KeepassDX for Android. Use SyncThing to keep your password DB in sync. Keepass can handle passwords and TOTP and it's free/open source software too.
KeepassXC can also autofill TOTP codes which I guess defeats the purpose of 2FA but is convenient nonetheless.

If you are running a VPN on the router rather than an individual client (like a PC) then Pihole will work normally, handling the DNS requests and blocking the adverts. Double NATting (having another router plugged into the ISP one) is best avoided.

My password for that which i use everywhere is the best password, because should i ever forget it, the site will tell me.
Incorrect

Thanks for the reminder that I need to fix my mother's shitty email and general online hygiene. Fucking hell, imagine being that big of a retard to download a file you're not 100% aware of what is. In 2023. And you're someone who grew up with the capital I Internet. I can excuse retardation from my 60+ year old parents who aren't super tech savvy, but they also don't make big flashing targets of themselves by running a shitposting platform.

LastPass's recent breach is aggravating, I've even recommended them before, a password manager has to be THE most secure thing it possibly can be, and two breaches this close together with snail's pace disclosures is taking the piss and then trying to sell it back to the thirsty
