2032 Asteroid Preparation

I think it's a lot more than the 3% they're currently saying. I think this is a slow trickle of news to get people acclimated to the idea, and they already know it's going to happen.
Are you saying that experts would do that? Just lie to us? On the Internet of all places??

Surely you jest. I trust The Science ™️.

And until The Science ™️ morphs again, it has always been the same and will always be the same!

Best I can find it's like 300 feet wide. That will fuck a city all up but it's not an extinction event. General disaster supplies are probably all you can do: either you die in the blast or you are close enough to need disaster supplies or it's a thing you see on the news.
If we were talking about one big enough to fuck up whole echo systems and cause famine and such you would want whatever you need to survive until you reach a nice stable carrying capacity in your area.

Very certain the asteroids chances have dipped below .5% at this point with more observation. But a normal falcon nine can send an impactor big enough to deflect it. And it offers us enough launch windows to send multiple attempts.

Larger asteroid or comet scares can approach us in the future though. On the lower end, basic survival gear, or financial planning for an economic crisis is a must. As funny as it be for an asteroid to hit a large Indian city. It could cause a similar financial crisis to 911.

But even if an asteroid isn't a dinosaur killer. It can have similar effects to a limited nuclear conflict. Meaning three years of famine and winter. Stock up on supplies that can last you that long. Also if you live inland, temperatures will reach arctic levels. So have plenty of kerosene, and make sure you are well below the frost line in your cellar/bunker. Also if poor or not a homeowner, live near the ocean. It will save you from the temperature extremes. But storms will be far worse due to the destruction of the ozone layer caused by dust and forest fires. Also stock up on enough sunscreen to last you fifteen years until the ozone layer rebuilds itself lol.

Humanity survived a similar catastrophe during the Younger-Dryas. It destroyed civilization, but humanity survived.

I'm going to encourage urban youths to loot. Whitey won't be around to catch them, then *Bang!* they're all vaporized by a meteor. It'll be like when they swarm over hurricane impacted areas to rob people, except funnier.

It's a massive nothing burger. The US already has demonstrated the technology to redirect Asteroids through the DART mission (impacting an asteroid and change its shape + trajectory through kinetic energy). This is only going to improve, and other countries will develop similar programs + technology.
