Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

I just thought of something, and it's about how this chick treating the foxes like pets and interacting with them too much is a legitimate criticism. I follow a lot of wild cat sanctuaries (and a wolf/wolfdog sanctuary), mainly ones that rescue wild cats from backyard zoos and take in wild and hybrid cats from owners that didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They tend to stress that human interaction is unnatural for these wild animals, and so they as rescues/sanctuaries try to avoid excessive interaction with the animals as much as possible. These cats most of the time can't be released back into the wild because of various reasons, including that they were bred and raised in captivity, and that they are often declawed by their previous owners. So the goal of the sanctuaries is to give them as natural of a life as possible by giving them a bunch of land to roam on, and to keep the sanctuaries closed to the public. They are given meat instead of live animals to hunt, and are given "enrichment toys" to get their hunting fix, so it's not an exact replication of nature. But the humans are not directly playing with the cats, which is something I was seeing quite a bit in foxgirl's videos. As well-intentioned as she may have been, that's not good for the foxes, because it confuses them.

The problem with Redditors and Tumblrinas is that the "altruistic motivations" aren't their real motivations, but rather, a cover for them to harass (in the legitimate sense) people, because they themselves have inherent mean streaks that they want a "righteous" outlet for. It's kinda like the psychopaths who find pedophiles to harass and abuse. Sure, pedos should suffer and I'll even celebrate their suffering, but I won't celebrate the people bringing about that suffering. Because the pedophilia isn't the motivation. Those people are inherent psychopaths who would harass and abuse anybody if it were socially acceptable. They want their psychopath outlet, and pedophiles are socially acceptable targets. Likewise, the egos of the Redditors and Tumblrinas won't allow them to be seen doing "problematic" shit, so they find "problematic" targets so that their actions against them aren't seen as problematic, despite obviously being so. It's a flaw in the people (though Redditors aren't people), and it's a flaw in the ideology.

Nah KF usually only targets people who deserve the label cow. Reddit’s snark subs are for anyone who has a following regardless of being good, evil, or even boring. The only qualification is having some kind of fame and existing in a way that makes some unhappy people angry. Fucking Jesus could come back and in a month he’d have a snark subreddit detailing how every miracle was actually a curse and every act of breathing was destroying society. It’s all hyperbole all the time.

That’s not what I see in KF outside political topics and Gender Hate threads. But that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

For instance there’s a bunch of milquetoast influencers and clout chasers infesting social media. Most are idiots but benign and unworthy of threads because they have no content worth laughing at. But they very likely all have haters dedicated to painting everything they do as evil. That’s the difference. The difference between ChrisChan crapping his briefs and drinking his semen, and TikTok dork #3459281 dressing a certain way.

Bit of a powerlevel but I've interacted with the husband before. I was photographing an ice racing event and he reached out to me to get more pictures of his car. Gave me 10 bucks for my pics. Already had to pay like $150 to pay for event and membership fee. Definitely very well off...

Look, I’m sorry, but I can’t bring myself to feel bad for anyone besides her daughter. I’ve heard a good bit about her hoarding and buying exotics, letting the foxes shit and piss everywhere, the suspicious deaths like one apparently baking in the sun, that’s bad enough. If there’s anything I have to draw the line at, it’s using living animals for OnlyFans content and talking about French kissing the foxes.

Did you not see the post I shared where Mikayla personally admitted that foxes (Milo, Apollo, Cerberus, Tonia) were injured due to the poor construction choices she made with the enclosures? That these sorts of things happened several times by her own account? That you can watch her videos and observe-- with your own two eyeballs-- that she never upgraded the fences to a safer material, despite declaring a net income of a million dollars in her 990 for 2022? These are not "natural causes" and they are not "hearsay." It is Mikayla pulling a Bojack Horseman and admitting that she did something bad, only to continue doing that exact same thing and getting the same results.

Here's another story of negligence from the horse's own mouth. She was allowing a fox to play in her house unsupervised and it caused a gas leak that could have killed every animal in the building.

Notice the bit at the end where she mentions adoption. Mikayla was "rescuing" these foxes from fur farms with the intent of putting them into the pet trade.

Literally are there any sources for this? I've already shared that on tumblr there was brief discussion about a YT thumbnail with her kid, but I've not seen this claim anywhere. No matter what side you're on, you need to back your facts up, so much of this is just hearsay.
