259 LGBTQ characters in cartoons that bust the myth that kids can't handle inclusion - "We're not gonna brainwash your kids", they said 10 years ago.

This one annoys me a lot because I watched Star vs. as it was airing and these two are literally the worst choices they could've made for LGBT representation. There were quite a few characters in season 1 & 2 who were probably Bi, Star and Marco definitely were to some extent. But I never saw Jackie Lynn Thomas as Bi at any point. She was always into guys and never showed any interest in girls whatsoever, even when other characters had way more hints at being into the same gender.

It was only at the very, very end of the show in season 4 did Jackie become lesbian after a trip she took to France. It's stupid too because she says she needed to got to France to "find herself" after she broke up with Marco even though the breakup was literally 100% Marco's fault. They probably just didn't want to write Jackie into the Mewni sections of the show since she's an "Earth" character which is crap since Janna was also an Earth character and showed up all the time in Mewni.

Also her love interest on the left? She's a flat-character. Literally only says one word in french and that's it. No personality or interests. She was introduced at the tail end of the show most likely for woke points so there was no time for character development on even a base level.

They could've added Star, Marco, Tom, Janna, even Ponyhead would've been a better choice honestly. Instead, a character they completely retconned for wokeness and a character who literally only exists to pander is what this site chooses.

I stopped watching the show early on, but Star blushed at a girl's ass in one of the first few episodes. This database declares characters LGBTQIA+ over less, What gives?

Everyone is in such a rush to be inclusive and so afraid of accusations that they aren't that this is what we get.

Now every time I hear "reboot" I think "who is gonna be gay/black/genderflipped?"
I mentioned this with some other farmers, but it felt like Recess, the Disney show, was peak kids cartoon before a lot of things started going downhill. It had diversity within the friend's group (Vince was the black kid, Mikey was the fat kid, Gretchen was the gangly ginger, Spinelli was the tomgirl, Gus was the beta male, TJ was the cool kid), but you related to every single one of them because all their problems were shit you dealt with as a kid. Skin colour didn't matter, nor did sexuality (because there really was none) or representation because you were supposed to connect with each kid based on their personality. But I guess that's out the window now - only stereotypes matter. Which sucks for any modern kid wanting to watch a good show.

Jackie Lynn Thomas going to France to "find herself" and coming back a lesbian is especially funny because she basically embodies the stereotype of 'Bisexual College Girl', but now that's seen as progressive instead of a joke. And was it really needed? That feels more like some MarcoStar shipper on the writing team wanting to make sure that Ship is Dead, because no kid is going to give a shit about that. Same with Stormer now being a porker. Was it really something that added to her character or did a dangerhair on staff need to make a role model for herself? If they came out with dolls of the modern Misfits, I have a feeling the Fattie will be on the shelf longer than the others.

It really seems like cartoons these days think that every kids show before it had an explosion of heterosexuality on screen at every minute and are now shoving as much pandering into it to overcompensate. But they're overcompensating for nothing, because most kids cartoons in the 90s never dealt with that unless it was aimed at an older audience. And even then, I cannot think off the top of my head any show that I watched that had "shipping" in it. Even Helga from Hey Arnold's obsession was more of a joke than anything. It's only recently that children's entertainment seems less like entertaining children and more to entertaining the Adult Children who refuse to grow up.

Arnold had that thing with Lila to be fair. Pretty sure Gerald's sister had a crush on Arnold too, plus there was that thing with Phoebe and the singer.

I've asked this before, but do kids even watch cartoons anymore? The fanbases for these shows are always the unwashed spergy weirdos on twitter and tumblr that refuse to grow up.

Steve Universe, My Little Pony, Netflix She-Ra, and on and on and on. I don't feel like kids are the ones watching these shows.
Can't say I've taken a census or anything, but I know Peridot is popular amongst the kids re: SU. Never heard of a kid watching Nu-Ra but I would bet good money on MLP being popular amongst that demographic. You have to understand that cable TV in general has been declining for years now to the point that even Teen Titans Go! would get sub 1mil per episode. Kids would just rather play a game or something since it's way more interactive. You could put Justice League Unlimited in front of them and I imagine a lot of them would be bored.

I am pretty sure they're meant to be targeted to girls in their teens because these shows rarely appeal to boys let alone children, which kinda explains a lot really.

Checked the database, no Shore Leave from the Venture Bros. And before you say that Venture Bros is an adult cartoon, do you think that these people would give a damn? If they actually cared about inclusion, they would include the gay character that was able to kill at least a dozen people a few seconds after walking into a room. That would make more people view gay people favorable than a bunch of dyke rocks that sing songs about friendship.
No Shore Leave, no Alchemist, no Colonel Gathers (gender dysphoria), no Colonel Gentleman (bi/omnisexual?), no Sky Pilot (black AND gay).

Of course they include Lexington even though his sexual orientation wasn't revealed until after Gargoyles was no longer on the air and it was in a comic series that is probably only remembered because of this revelation. This might be nitpicking but if it wasn't featured on the cartoon show, it should not be on this list.
