The TV adaptation of the Chinese sci-fi novel The Three-Body Problem just dropped on Netflix and your favorite torrent sites. The book trilogy is one of my favorite works, so I'm pretty excited to watch this.

People are understandably pessimistic about this, since it's produced by D. B. Weiss and David Benioff, mainly known for fucking up the later seasons of Game of Thrones. I don't care though, I think it's going to be a fun watch even if it's a mess, and big-budget sci-fi shows are rare enough. Also, if people want a version that's very faithful to the books, there's a Chinese adaptation of the first book already (English subtitles available).

(Also, please be considerate and use spoiler tags if you're going to be talking about significant plot points)

I know little about it, but from what I've heard it sounds as nihilistic as the Xeelee Sequence and just as good.

I'm sure they're going to have to dramatically rewrite it if they go beyond the first book. The second book features a reclusive autist literally making his waifu real and the third can be summarized as "woman gets put in charge, entire universe collapses in upon itself"

Isn't the Chinese male protagonist getting race-swapped and gender-swapped?

When the Chinese and International military and very important people of power and influence were in the meeting discussing strategies, I noticed a severe lack of women so I expect some token women there.

wonder how many of the chinese cast will be replaced by nogs

I like sci-fi but the original Chinese film adaptation was very very science heavy. And you know what I think of when I think science?

Niggers.

The entire cast was basically Chinese male and female scientists so it will be interesting (not really) to see how many of them become scientists of melanin.

Watched the first episode. Truly dire. Eiza Gonzalez is hot but can't be taken seriously as a nanotechnology pioneer. The asian kiwi actress who plays her scientist friend is a truly dreadful actress.

The rest of their snug little friendship group exchange cute witty dialogue that is sickening, especially fat boy from Game of Thrones. Nothing even vaguely resembling that shit was in the book. What a fucking farce.

The throwback scenes to 1960's China are a little better but still worse than the Chinese adaptation.

The universe 'blinking' is also done awfully, terribly dumbed down and clumsy. Even the special effects are shit.

The book was recommended to me by multiple people over the past year or so, finally got to reading it couple days ago. I'm done with the first book and reading Dark Forest now.
Loving it so far, it's one of the more thoughtful and dare I say realistic depictions of an alien species, certainly very interesting. I was always a sucker for exoplanet exploration, and having a world in a chaotic three-star system really stimulates one's imagination. Author doesn't take sides or patronizes readers on various issues that the book touches, which I really appreciate. It's simply exploring hypothetical scenario and how humanity would deal with it, as objectively as it can.

It seems that in the show, they replaced Wang Miao, through whose point of view much of the first book is presented, with a team of diverse individuals (muh women in STEM). That's certainly a sign of typical Netflix butchering adaptation.
After reading a certain scene in the book, my mind went back to a similar scene in the trailer. I'm talking about the scene where cosmic background radiation is made to flicker in order to convey message to Wang Miao... in the show they made it flicker in visible light, which would have very different implications. It likely was dumbed down because the hollyweirdo retards thought that the viewing audience is as retarded as them and would be confused by the original scene if it was faithfully adapted.

I like the books, have little hope for the show. There's apparently an animated adaptation by Tencent that came out in 2023, I already downloaded that today. From what I read, it's pretty good.

Nigger's being inserted is one thing, what really gets me is when they throw in a woman in her mid 20's as a lead scientist or head of department.

I guess my fears were confirmed.

As an East Asian male Wang Miao is already white-adjacent, chud. The universe needs diverse perspectives to help it live in peace and harmony. The concept of a 'dark Forest' supports xenophobia and white supremacy.

Also, Shi Qiang needs to be smoking black dicks instead of cigarettes, as a policeman he needs to decenter himself and defund the police force.

Who keeps hiring these 2 abject retards?

I demand a version of this series where the entire cast are nothing but the bustiest jewish actresses and every scene has to be wearing microbikinis. If I see one shirt on I'm minecrafting the director's house.

black dicks
Black male penises are rent free in your mind.

I was curious about what r/aznidentity had to say regarding this adaptation, as they consistently express concerns over Hollywood's racism against Asians. According to them, it's filled with WMAF (White Male, Asian Female) propaganda.

'spicyteribowl', lmao. All azn identity and you identify as the most basic bitch thing to come out of it. Good fuckin' job.

I'm amused with the whole 'author reference' thing because Netflix is in a real bind there. Don't talk about the author and you're rayciss. Talk about him and you're going to deal with being asked about the author and his 'What's going on in Xinjiang is based, actually' statements.

I tried to listen to the audiobook, and like three quarters of the cast felt like it was literally Chan, Chin, Ching, Chang, and Chong and I could follow along with who was who but I couldn't often understand which name was being spoken.

Also it was boring.
