3rd Shift Work - Please Help a Newbie Out

It'd depend on the specifics of your job, but in general:
  • Humans are diurnal creatures (we're up during the day and sleep at night), so you'll need melatonin supplements and a good pair of blinders to sleep during the day. You'll also need coffee to stay up.
  • You're not going to have much of a social life outside of work, but you post here so that shouldn't be an issue.
  • Graveyard shifts are surprisingly quiet. It's a surreal experience, working while the world sleeps.

Are you fast food or retail? I'd imagine you'd be cleaning up after people or walking into scraps left from the last shift.

I did three different overnight jobs. All three sucked ass. Sleeping in a totally quiet and 100% light controlled room helped a lot, and melatonin helped a little, but it was never enough and I'd average 4-5 hours of sleep and some days I just wouldn't ever fall asleep. Each time it took about 6 months for it to catch up with me and I'd have to give up the night work. It's also a total fucking drain on being awake or wanting to do things on your days off.

But I used to know a guy who was happy with nightshift. He was tired all the time and I don't think he had much of a life, but he said he preferred the quiet and empty of the night.

If what you are doing is safety sensitive, like driving a truck or operating a forklift, it can be a big problem. If you're the overnight mall cop at your local Pajeet gas station you'll have a Pajeet poking and prodding you all night, so no worries.

Start a YouTube channel or try going to one of the alt-tech sites and making a name for yourself. Try Rumble. YouTube is pretty much shit these days because they want everyone to watch that faggot Jimmy Kimmel and all the mainstream trash.

Don't be a wage cuck.

Black out curtains, maybe a sleep mask though they never worked for me. Don't expect a rigid sleep schedule.

No matter what you do the concept of working during the night is kind of fundamentally shitty, and it's terrible for you. They may as well have you start smoking too, to really stick it to your health.

So I guess my advice is to keep an eye out for another job that has you awake during the natural time in which the species is intended to be awake. For a lot of people it really starts messing with them over time.

Then you're a cuck anyways, because your success is dependent on the whims of a bunch of volatile internet morons, both on the audience side and the tech side.

Working a real job isn't glamorous, but it beats trying to play the clout game online.

As stated, sleep mask, melatonin/diphenhydramine/5htp/ st John's wort.

Been doing this 3rd shift for a year. It still sucks.

As long as you have your weekends, your social life will be fine.

It depends upon what your new job is, your current routine and your personal physiology really. Don't listen to everyone saying OMG 3rd shift kills just because it isn't for everybody. I don't expect you to power level but your OP is too vague to really recommend anything.

Really depends on what exactly the job is.

I worked graveyard as a security guard for a few years. 90% of the time it was peaceful but boring, so I’d occupy myself with things like podcasts/audiobooks/crossword puzzles etc. things that would fill up the silence but not divert my attention too much. Did a lot of walking so the first thing I did was buy a nice pair of cushioned boots so my feet weren’t singing soprano at the end of my shift. Eat food and drink things that aren’t sugar/caffeine heavy: nuts and seeds, carrots, jerky, water etc are good choices for staying alert without sugar crashing.

It takes some time to get used to sleeping in the day and being up all night. I used melatonin the first couple weeks to help get my sleep and adjust to the new schedule.

These are just things that helped me working as a guard. Hope they help you but without more knowledge of what exactly you’ll be doing it’s hard to be more precise

Be prepared to spend a lot of time with Australian people online. That's one of the main things they don't tell you.

I never had a 3rd shift job, but I had a job where I had to be there at 4am. I didn't like it because it felt like I was sleeping all the time. The only good parts was going there when the roads are dead and getting out at 1pm.

Blackout curtains, a sleep mask, either earplugs or a fan. Don't forget expect to get a rigid sleep schedule down right away.

For instance - I work 3 nights on, 3 nights off. It started beginning of this year. I do not yet have a steady schedule with my off nights/off hours yet.

Oh and if you don't live alone, make sure you have some kind of understanding with the other people and a door that closes very tight.

I feel like a freak fucking mutant that I've always done better on third shift.

That being said, keep in mind, 3rd shift is usually where they put all of the trash they can't fire (AKA. DIE cucks), so don't go in expecting to be surrounded by the cream of the crop. I went in gung ho as usual, busting my ass and generally fuming at the lazy nigger they put next to me screaming into his phone, stomping around, and generally being...well, a nigger. I about fucking shot myself.

Came back after Christmas break, and now, fuck it. If Nigger John isn't going to try, why should I?

The only people more worthless are the weekend night shifters.

Night shift is easy. I've never even bothered with melatonin. Your sleep schedule will be a bitch to maintain sometimes so be careful not to let it sneak up on you but if you nail that then you'll enjoy a lot of perks to your life (I.e not having to possibly take a day off to go shopping or run errands on the weekday).
