Police in Shinjuku, Tokyo arrested a 40-year-old man who works in the delivery industry for allegedly sending a threat and creating forcible obstruction of business at game developer Square Enix. The man allegedly sent a threatening message to the Shinjuku-based company through its website's inquiry form on July 23.
According to police, the man demanded money back from a game in his message and threatened to repeat the fire at Kyoto Animation's 1st studio building on July 18. The man reportedly admitted to police that he was angry after losing a game and decided to send the message. Police noted that the game in question is a smartphone game that the suspect is registered for. Police also stated that a search of the man's house did not uncover gasoline or related materials.

In a similar incident, police arrested a 25-year-old male nursing home employee on March 29 for sending a threatening message to Square Enix. In the message, the man threatened to kill the company's staff.
Additionally, police arrested a 63-year-old dispatch worker in Sapporo, Hokkaido for sending a threatening message referencing Kyoto Animation through the LINE messaging and social media app in July. The suspect allegedly sent a message to his former superior, a 36-year-old male nursing home employee, through LINE on July 25 at around 10:35 a.m. The message said, "I'm off to get revenge. Maybe it'll be the Hokkaido version of KyoAni?"
According to police, the suspect admitted to sending the message for revenge but stated that it was a joke. The suspect was reportedly let go from his work at the nursing home in June due to a poor work attitude.

> not threatening them over the disastrous-looking FF7 remake

Considering their mobile and micro-transaction ridden games over the past few years I think these people might be on to something.

I think SE makes some of the highest quality mobile games, honestly. Repetitive gameplay loop aside, Mobius Final Fantasy is a pretty damn good product. So is Exvius. Even Record Keeper, as low budget as it is, is a good mobile game.

Reminder that Square Enix got animal parts thrown at their office for fucking up Dragon Quest 9, so this is rather routine for them.

I'm not saying that they didn't ask for it, but I'm not saying they're innocent either.

I can only imagine how many deranged threats these escapism companies were already getting. They've built up fanbases of people who poured all their energy meant for spouses and children into entertainment media, so any perceived slight must burn like an existential crisis. (:_(

Japanese men avoid marriage for many good reasons.

What happened with 9?

The create a character was bad, the DS was incredibly limited to do a full blown mainline Dragon Quest game, and it was a major major step down from DQ8 which is one of the high points in the series. Sidequests were terrible and the combat was also fucked with which is something that every other dragon quest didn't fuck with because it was perfect.

it also had DLC which has now been removed since the server for DS games is dead.

So 9 is hated in many circles.

11 has so much polish mostly due to 9. They did not want a repeat. Dragon Quest is like if Ultima didn't stop releasing games or if Heroes of Might and Magic was still a thing. It's held to be something that sacred in Japan.

Sic simper tyrannus! Tifa's breasts are avenged.

What the hell is it with 40 year old hikkikkomori nerds threatening and committing acts of violence/terrorism on the studios that produce stuff they love?
The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.

I loved DQ9.

You just reminded me I never finished it and the servers are gone forever, tho (:_(
