I don't think it'll work, but you do realize that everyone criticizing the "ok" gesture also understands it's a troll, right? All the articles about acknowledge that it started as an op on 4chan. That doesn't mean that it won't make people wonder if usage of it is an attempt to spread the 4chan (read: nazi) meme.

The plan is: Convince people that it's meant to be viewed as a hate symbol > Cause dissension among leftist ranks by making people ask if any particular example of it is a troll or genuine > laugh

Information is heavily diluted over a short amount of time to the point where people connected the dots to avoid coming to the conclusion that it's a "troll," relying instead on the prevalent use of the symbol by people they dislike in very recent history.
If any headline specifically or even vaguely hints that hashtags are a white nationalist tool, people will take that and run with it.
 
If this works, I will be so proud of 4chan.
I want to see Reddit fall for this again with their whole “It started as a troll, then actual racists started using it, so now it’s bad” shtick. Just to prove that some people will fall for anything.
Like how their spurging about Frenworld now, which is an obvious, stated troll.
