I'm certain this shift was the product of targeted campaigns. /pol/ has been increasingly unauthentic ever since ~2017 and everybody who has visited the place a few times before 2016 knows what I mean. I stopped browsing it at some time late 2018 because it felt like shit. 2020 I took a peek to see what's going on there and holy shit it was a completely different thing. And now it's so much worse.
It's full of flat earthers.
They love Hitler, but even more than Hitler they love Putin.
They love the radical muslims and just like Reddit, every time you mention Christianity you get swarmed with replies calling you a christcuck. There was a year-long campaign to demonize Christianity and associate it with LGBT, bots were posting some faggot tranny totally legit tiktok "pastors" and it worked like a charm. Nowadays the majority of /pol/ think Christianity=Globohomo.
They say they hate redditors but they are proud atheists and the only group more proud than the atheists are the Pagans of /pol/, very much like every other redditor.
And don't even get me started on all the absolute schitzo posts that hit bump limit, like how Artificial Intelligence is the antichrist because electricity is demon energy and computers are full of trapped demons.
It's all SO unauthentic, so blatantly non-human and obviously very carefully tailored to repel any new visitors and only attract bottom of the barrel conspiracy freaks and double digit iq morons.
Oldfag anons either just left or visit every once in a while in a happening thread, like the Darrel Brooks trial.

/pol/ was a vaguely interesting board in 2011/2012 but like most things on 4chan went to shit in 2014. The mass arrival of coomers pushed a lot of anons from /b/ to /pol/ and /v/. Then gamergate just added to the fire and /leftypol/ broke away. Back in 2012 /pol/ was very, very different to how it is now. Youd have ancap threads, paganism threads, christianity threads, socialism threads and your usual wignat stuff. Even in 2012 /pol/ used to make fun of wignats for largely being tourists from stormfront (stormfags). The /pol/ janny changed to a stormfag and the whole board morphed into the shitheap it is today.

Went on /pol/ during the downtime from clearnet and predictably the threads about the site were full of people cheering on the end of The Farms. I can understand if you are gleefully posting about the death of The Farms just to be an asshole and piss people off, but its pretty sad to see so many people laughing at ISPs dropping this site and ridiculing posts saying that once Kiwi Farms goes down permanently 4chan and other sites will be next. If you're a /pol/tard posting on a site with a reputation for being "the asshole of the internet" and gets all your content from sites that have been slandered in the mainstream press as extremist and racist; watching a small group of well connected people be able to get ISPs to drop websites without any due process should be a cause for alarm. I don't know if its tribalism, fed shills trying to set a narrative, anger at The Farms for making fun of their sacred cows, or just sheer stupidity that motivates these feelings.

They used to be more open with other political beliefs, /pol/ used to have right/left libertarian threads and christian/pagan threads (before they moved to shit up /his/) but after jannies got replaced, it was clear they jannies wanted to push their ideal hugbox, and if what @Trog of the dump is correct about a janny on /pol/ being a stormfag, it wouldn't be that much of a shocker. /pol/ was never fucking communist, but they were a lot more (for a lack of a better world) diverse with what beliefs people were talking about, before it turned into a circlejerk leading to modern day nu-/pol/ which is full of AF fags and people with no actual beliefs/morals than just "being the opposite of the current thing"

That's pretty much bullshit although the composition was a lot different. There were indeed more shitlibs there although they were usually about as radical and "politically incorrect" as the right wingers, who were more a blend of ancaps/lolberts. More of the racism was at least partly ironic. You would also never have seen unironic deadpan support of a major political candidate like Trump, although /pol/ would have obviously liked him (by and large) more than the Democrat.

It started morphing when stuff like sincerely supporting politicians like Ron Paul became normal, sort of like that "Old Anonymous vs. New Anonymous" meme.

Also I'm talking more end-stage /pol/ than the current shambling corpse operating under that name, which has gone so far off the rails that really the culture has been shoahed. It doesn't exist in any form resembling its former self.
