That email basically confirms this webzone has lived rent free in the minds of the 4chan staff for awhile now. The fact that you could never make a post on 4chan about kiwifarms implied it heavily but man. I wonder what it is about this place specifically that seems to cheese so many people off? Its hardly unique when it comes to archiving shit and gossiping about retards on the internet.

Because the janitors are the sort of people whose behavior would earn them threads here.

I think a good example of why 4chan jannies are so hated is when Billy Mitchell won his lawsuit several weeks ago. The rules of /v/ lay out that it is a board discussing video games and video game culture. Well, Billy Mitchell is clearly a major figure in video game culture, and this was a topic that a lot of people wanted to discuss. Jannies were patrolling the board deleting anything that looked like a Billy Mitchell thread, including OPs that were just about the Donkey Kong arcade game.

Now if the board was like 25% threads about Billy Mitchell and his lawsuit, then yes, of course you've got to clean some of those up, but just one thread about this topic that clearly a lot of people wanted to discuss isn't going to hurt anything. Especially considering how many threads are just dedicated to masturbating to fanart of video game characters, which there are other boards for.

At the same time the /v/ jannies forget the board isn't /trash/ (Even has one janny in common!) and start giving free pass to weird furry coombait threads, even ones not even related to video games.

Mods were shadowbanning benign threads on /x/ without any reason whatsoever, and they didn't even ban the OP, just 404'd the threads in total silence; it happened at least 6 or 7 times to me recently. Meanwhile, threads discussing methods to kill people with curses where allowed to stay up and going. And let's not even begin talking about the discord circlejerking generals like the Nobody.

I'm sure we met a few times before, brother. God I hated all of those faggots so much. I hope you're feeling the same vindication that I am. Keep it spooky feller.

I like how the email indicates they've been trying to move 4chan over to a new server but it's taken "a while". I also like how it says this as if the issue was the server itself and not the software. If they had migrated in time, they'd still have been hacked.

Which email? I know I once talked about KF on a thread and not only got banned but got every post from every board that was active deleted, including a few older threads in slower boards. Someone definitely had something against KF there and seemed to be more than just janny faggotry.

I have been consistently banned on /x/ for calling out all the shitty generals that have spawned over the years, including the nobody general, the NAC Protocol threads, and more recently those LARPing faggots that were pretending to be vampires and vampire detectives or whatever retarded shit. GroveAnon got bullied so hard he took his harem of mentally ill play-pretend vampire trannies to some shithole and they STILL spent all their time trying to turn into another circle jerking general.

The strange thing is that after I would flame them and go to sleep, when I would wake up ALL OF MY POSTS (along with the others agreeing that these people are annoying fucking retards) would be silently deleted. The mods were actively pushing for this non-esoteric roleplaying bullshit while classic greentext spooky threads would be gone in a day or two. I don't mean to sound MATI but it genuinely brings me personal joy knowing these useless yapping retards have no place to post in anymore. I believe if they'd been able to migrate to a modern distro, the ghostscript version in a modern repo would not have been outdated. This would have prevented the initial access exploit if I'm understanding how things occurred.

The PDF sanitization/validation issue would still be present in the PHP, but it wouldn't be calling a vulnerable version of ghostscript if they'd updated.

That said, looking at the codebase, the biggest thing they seem to have been working on (since around sep 2024) seems to be a reimplementation of the database code from oldschool mysql functions to more modern PDO. This seems like a step towards migration to more modern versions of PHP, but there are numerous other issues in this code that's been leaked that would have prevented a migration to PHP versions >7.4. Migrating the code to be compliant with modern PHP 8.1 (and thus suitable to run on a modern OS) would have taken weeks or months IMO for someone competent.
