It's because of spammers learning about the wonders of proxy services, there's one on /co/ (a quick search through Desuarchive will give you a good idea of whats going on) who's made it his life's mission to spam Peridot pics until the mods at /co/ give in and dedicate a 24/7 sticky to that stupid grot and teaches other spammers how to do the same.

A bot is definitely involved for detection of some images, but some are very obviously posted and subsequently yelled at by the same guy pretending to be two sides of the same conflict. There's also the case of some of the leeposters having differing filenames on the same pictures, another giveaway...
