This is wrong. In 2021, the minim prison sentence for the possession of such things was increased from 6 months to one year. Now it has been decreased to 6 months again. The main motivation were dumb retarded parents who found this sort of stuff on their children's phones and then saved it to forward it to the school/police. A minimum sentence of 6 months allows courts to deal with such small incidents quickly, without a main hearing. The maximum prison sentence still remains 10 years and those inadvertent incidents still result in a sentence.

Also, this sort of shit was a way bigger problem back in the day, at least for 4chan. moot shut the entire website off for a day on April 20 2007 because of cp spam that couldn't be deleted because of some glitch related to MySQL. It was so common that the Internet Archive stopped taking requests from 4chan's domain and scrubbed their archive clean of any of the site's snapshots.

The anti-CP movement doesn't kick off until the 70s and doesn't gain traction until the mid to late 80s. Jewish groups used to make and sell CP VHS tapes you could buy in the back of porn magazines legally. William Luther Peirce has a radio show on one of them being busted and how big the industry was at the time. Micheal Jackson infamously had a photo book of nude children on his coffee table when Neverland was raided. The lesser known point is that same book was a best seller that year and many people owned it.

The hurtcore thread has a bit of a discussion on this issue currently. The old laws are unsuitable to deal with teenagers having smart phones. You can't criminalize teenagers sending each other nude photos without making almost every teenager a serious criminal. So laws are going to need to be looked at and changed in a way that doesn't ruin your life for being stupid in high school while punishing the sickos involved in hurting children. It's going to be very difficult to figure out how to do it because you also have to be careful of weaponized children knowing they can send any adult a picture of their junk and get an immediate 1-10 years in prison for possession. Teenage girls already weaponize calling people sexist and false accusations, handing them an immediate tool to burn someone's life down if they can find your phone number or email is cultural suicide. We made smart phones and were not prepared for what that means to a wider society. So now we have to figure out how to properly manage what amounts to an unlimited amount of CP being made and shared across almost every high school in the world.

Used to be pretty common to see people on IRC or instant messengers telling you to avoid /b/ for a few hours because it was being spammed with that stuff.

I've checked it briefly a few times in the last few years and there's just nothing there. At all. No fun greentexts, no funny shitposting, not even any goofy memes. It's just coombrained garbage. It was always at least 90% that but there would usually be something at least mildly amusing there.

I went through every thread. The only worth while one is the Celebs being taken advantage of one. It lists mainstream movies with rough sexual themes. If you're into exploitation movies it's worth reading even if it's pornish. They're complaining 4chan is so out of date they can't post the proper movie posters because they're webp or too high a file size. Why didn't they even switch to a better imageboard system?

The file size limit was increased from 3 MB to 4 MB back in 2021 (IIRC), and webms started to support VP9 at the same time. File sizes and file formats probably wouldn't be a problem if hiro cared. I don't think the problem is Yotsuba per se, just gookmoot. By the way, the 120-second duration limit on webms still exists and is still as retarded as it was in 2014.

If you're really cynical, you could imagine Hiro wanting to save on bandwidth by not increasing the file size limit.

And both of those are reader clients meaning they can only go so far to fix issues like not filling a whole page width or letting you resize the comically tiny reply boxes, they don't add anything like multiple files per post, sitewide sound webm uploads, proper text formatting besides having to type out [sp.oiler] (when [sp] or [.S] (edited this to unfuck formatting bc apparently this forum doesn't even look for terminator blocks like HTML does) would be way more efficient) or an overboard to look at active posting sitewide that are game changing features all other IB software's had for over a decade now. I still remember the explosion of insane shitposting just off of 8chan having a max limit of five files per post on the average board config where you had guys spamming weird fart porn or Quark laughing and multiplying them until it became a cascade of earrape, meanwhile what the hell has ever been done approaching that level using 4chan's limitations? If I can go to the most obscure backwater imageboard that is probably just five or six pedos spewing weird injokes at each other and find even one of those features in use then what excuse does 4chan even have by now for being so far behind the curve to the point of destroying creativity and making the site a safe zone for only the most torment addicted schizoids?
