If the console has the inbuilt ability to connect to the internet without some weird expensive sattelite peripheral that only worked for a limited time, you cannot make me call it "retro".
I guess I've been away from 4chan for too long. I don't understand how any of this works. When spam is on topic threads I don't know what spam is any more.
Here's how it usually happens:
- A thread or topic is spammed, falseflagged in, or otherwise shat up by a dedicated poster (or small circle of dedicated posters). This part isn't actually even necessary, but the schizo boogeyman often was real in the beginning, at least in my experience.
- People wise up to this and begin calling said poster out, noting his usual tactics and commonalities in his posts so that said posts can be ignored and/or reported. This step is accelerated if the spammer ever gets IP wiped and large amounts of posts in the thread ostensibly made by different posters are revealed to all be from the same IP.
- As awareness of this poster increases, posters start to get carried away and/or less intelligent posters become aware of it. People start getting accused of being the boogeyman for merely sharing the same opinion as him on a particular topic, even if their posts are constructive and non-argumentative. If the spammer is still around, they often join in on this themselves, though for the most part it's done sincerely. It should be again noted that they might not have even existed to begin with, in some cases.
- The brainrot starts really setting in. People start falseflagging as the schizo (who might not even be present anymore) while still sincerely believing that every other supposed instance of this schizo is real. In their minds, they're just fucking with the schizo by "making him look bad" in order to cause a real freakout, or "evening the playing field" by making the schizo more "obvious" to counteract too many of his posts "flying under the radar" (aka nobody believes their random accusations of innocuous posts being made by the schizo). Falseflagging and ironic/mocking schizoposts usually start to outnumber the real schizoposts by now if they haven't already, and the original schizo/spammer/boogeyman might actually have left by this point, meaning the torch is now entirely carried by people claiming to hate the spam. This can last for years.
- New posters who weren't even there for the original spam start posting as the schizo, whether it's someone who hates the thread/topic "joining in on the fun" (rare), or sincere posters in the thread with a shitposting streak deciding to let off a little steam, or maybe try and get the schizo associated with some opinion they don't like.
In my opinion, this phenomenon has started to eclipse actual dedicated schizoposters in terms of how much they shit up threads and make discussion impossible. You see behind the curtain and realize how retarded most of the boogeyman shit is when you get called half a dozen schizos in the span of a month, sometimes in threads you've never even used before. It's especially common in general threads, or threads/boards that see large amounts of new (and often underage) users coming in just for that one board and not acclimating to the wider culture of the site, such as /vp/ or /pol/. You can also see many examples on /v/ if you go into the wrong thread and dare to express the opinion that some retard newfag's favorite game is "Okay I guess, but nothing special, I still enjoyed it though... 7.5/10" instead of the best thing ever.
Sometimes people try to speedrun making up a fake schizo by making fake discord screencaps of some supposed server they "infiltrated" dedicated to promoting an opinion they don't like, or they'll spam a thread with some really obvious amateur too-on-the-nose falseflagging as some type of poster they don't like, then screencap their own posts to pass around as "proof" of the schizo. They might even make it up in the middle of an argument they feel like they're losing, falseflagging as a nonexistent guy who disagrees with them and making him sound very deranged so he looks bad, while spouting some nonsensical strawman argument of what he thinks that other side believes and exposing himself in the process.
I can't speak to the /m/ guy and whether or not this applies there because I don't really use that board, but seeing a general thread marked as a slide thread actually made by a spammer certainly raised an eyebrow.
