4chan's code is basically held up by duck tape and superglue, and it's still leaking water, I think the image swapping glitch still happens to this day even though it's a well over a decade old bug

yeah its still a thing. I think someone told me once the image swap bug is a race condition in their backend when making a post that's exasperated by their use of Cloudflare as a CDN. I want to say it's an easy bug to fix but as a software dev sometimes a simple fix is anything but.

funny you say this. I was thinking of making my own imageboard to replace 4chan, and it was going to be powered by Remix + React Router.

... i got as far as defining the router rules for the frontpage and then decided to do literally anything else.

I have been reading the site code and it's fucking insane how much inefficient and ancient shit is piled up in it.

Wordfilter for tbh/fam? Efficient array, but the filter for soy? Lengthy specific chunk of code clearly patched in later.
There's an april fools .html most likely meant for an embedded frame that is so old it's referencing a site url used in 2007.
Random duplicate test files for json, the catalog, site board headers, all for seemingly no reason.
Proof they wanted to wordfilter /ck/, /vg/ and /vp/ specifically but never added the custom filters to their files (while now making those boards check the tbh/fam/soy filters twice or even thrice).
Oh, and the hcaptcha API key and many, many other API related things that definitely would nevereverever be used for evil purposes.
