Q shit hasn't been a thing outside of Facebook and Twitter for about half a decade now. I hate this smug reddit-tier sneer that that's all 4chan is (again not even accurate, Q posting was born on 8chan). /pol/ is more just twitter screenshots and sucking Trump off than anything else these days.
"q's" first ever post (according to qagg) was on /pol/, and it stayed that way for a few months until eventually migrating to 8chan.

It's fair to presume that was the case but I genuinely think it was because the servers hosting the imageboard and adjacent sites got too overloaded with the extreme overflow of traffic. There was a brief period of time where /soy/ was reaching 2k+ PPH. Shortly after the site started shitting the bed
Server for mc is still offline tho. Soybooru is back up but I also presume this may be because the jannies for soycraft don't check their status that often as its not as active as it used to be.

If 4chan does go down for real, I will miss the musical videos but to be fair I think those haven't been a true thing for nearly a decade now.

It's a site that has served as the birthplace for so many memes and aspects of Internet culture but nothing lasts forever and the place has been kind of stagnant for a long time.

I didn’t know a “proper” site hack like that was still possible.
It is very easy when you refuse to do any sort of maintenance to the backend (its very likely that since moot sold the site, its been left completely alone) and many vulnerabilities for 10+ year old unpatched OS's exist. Maybe if the site was properly maintained this would have not have happened, but gookmoot doesn't give a shit.

Or they'd made 4-chan TOR only.

Occasionally /pol/ is a good source of information but otherwise it's political schizophrenia.
US PG 2 normally gets stories significantly before they go mainstream
/pol/ is mostly trash but it usually gets stories significantly before they hit US PG 2

If you don't mind having significantly more trash than good information it can be useful. That said I don't have enough time to scroll through all the trash these days.
