Kiwifarms is anti-Socratic in nature as rather than engaging in dialogue or critical thinking, the users would often dismiss viewpoints based purely on the number of negative reactions/downvotes. It discourages independent thought and encourages conformity, replacing reasoned discourse with mob judgment. This is the very reason why 4chan is superior.

People will try to cope about this but stickers absolutely have a psychological effect on how people post here. There wouldn’t have been a big sperg out when they were first disabled if they didn’t. Null should just bite the bullet and just completely disable them. 4chan has a different problem because while sites with upvotes encourage conformity, 4chan encourages you to be as obnoxious as possible to get your post noticed.

in retrospect I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. All the boards that originally made the site memorable were decaying corpses of what they once were
/g/ was still good for the occasional bantz and /ck/ would still have quality OC from time to time, but I'm not sure what else we're really losing here

The main thing we might lose is one of the last places on the internet where you could near-instantly start a free form anonymous discussion about relatively niche topics and get actual responses from human beings. The quality of those responses might have been questionable sometimes, but there is really no alternative for some things.

More mainstream platforms and social media like reddit and twitter are literally like 80% bots these days, plus are super sanitized and completely consumed by political agendas and astroturfing. It's like being on /pol/-lite permanently.
Discord just doesn't work as a public discussion format. Channels tend to be taken over by "in"-groups that stonewall discussion and outside perspectives.
On the other hand small forums of narrow interest groups tend to be so slow you might as well find an actual quill & parchment letter buddy for asynchronous communication. Even if I'm willing to wait for a response from the 5 people other than me active on such a site, am I willing to go on an investigative journey to even find one of these niche communities every time I want to talk about a thing older than the past 5 years?

If I suddenly want to talk to somebody about something niche - let's say Disciples 2 - a semi-obscure pc game from the early 00s, or discuss 2006 Eurovision OR talk about something that is not inherently political, but for whatever reason is a hot topic in current year etc. etc., there is currently no substitute to 4chan. It's not a question of "memorable", OC or brilliant insights, it's about being able to hold at least semi-genuine conversation over the internet at all in any capacity these days. The world wide web is a fucking wasteland.

Even before this, whenever the site went down it would take literally hours for it to come back. Everyone who's even slightly capable of maintaining the site are just running around like headless chickens

This doesn't mean they are necessarily incompetent, the sheer size and volume of 4chan is a pretty unique scenario that only very few people in the industry ever get to experience in their job. Combine this with very outdated software, a low budget and a small team, or maybe even just a single server tranny, and you can imagine why even regular maintenance might take a few hours to complete.

I have noticed that effortposting is beginning to disappear, replaced by single-word posts and irrelevant babbling. Without swift intervention, this thread will soon become plagued like the Soyjak.party thread. The damage to it may be nearly irreversible.

Making a temporary thread for the 4chan refugees may be a good idea, since discussions are starting to rapidly derail into typical anon-sperging. It will give them a space to express themselves and share their experiences/thoughts without contaminating the thread with inapplicable nonsense.

However, this is just a simple thought from me.

I'm kinda pissed to be honest. My last post on 4chan was so lame. It was just a picture of Donkey Kong from his new game (DK Bananza) getting a banana, he punches the banana, it's made of some kind of mineral, and the banana breaks and it says "OH, Banana" in text . DK is happy at least, but his new design IS unsettling. In game it looks like his fur is made of feathers, and when he jumps in water and gets out it looks like he is made of plastic. Very bad look for the new Donkey Kong. The gameplay looks a little bit too simple for me, I'm an older man now (25) and can't really play easy, childish, videogames without feeling like a chump.
