4chan style image boards just don't lend themselves very well to phone format. Posting images is arduous, clicking through backlinks is a pain, viewport aspect ratio is just plain inconvenient, etc. It's very much a site stuck in the desktop-first era of UX/UI and that's a good thing. The only real acceptable reason to phonepost is if you're literally at some live event and posting about it/coordinating with other anons. Otherwise it's just a sign that you don't own a computer and have no other way to participate.
You also have to realize that a large amount of the hate is from an aged population that literally could not phonepost as they joined the site.

As far as the captcha goes, it used to be a lot worse in terms of actually trying to solve the captcha. iirc it was like 6 characters at fucked angles and half the time you had to solve a slider version which was extremely gay. After the 900s timeout was implemented though the captchas became significantly easier. This is a standard example of what they were for me:

They were all 4 characters only and sliders no longer existed on desktop. Even if I were being dumb and phoneposting for whatever reason they're only 5 characters and the sliders, while they still exist, were significantly easier.
And I get that the 900s CD can seem weird and turn off new users. But it's an anonymous image board with no registration process - there has to be concessions somewhere. And if someone can't be assed to wait 15 minutes or use a burner email, maybe their content isn't worth hosting in the first place.

Honestly. Not even surprised this happened. Longtime lurker here for both sites, it's a shame how bad the site got after the cancerfag generation (my generation) but what can you do? Did the hacker obtain anything indicating like... posts BY pass holders? I'm 99% certain companies and government entities were buying passes so they could bot spam without being banned left and right but I never had concrete proof.

Thread participation died hard after the latest rounds of changes. Requiring email verification or forcing people to wait 15 mins to post was the most dogshit retarded idea they could have ever come up with on a public forum. I used to contribute more doodles/OC on /v/ before the changes, but after, no way am I waiting 15 mins to post something that's going to get buried in a tidal wave of goonerslop.
