If they update the backend software (PDF library, PHP, MySQL, FreeBSD OS) without updating the site software, at least for PHP, the site will break.
My guess? 4chan returns in some form, minimum time two weeks. If it's less than that, there's a very high chance they're using dogshit from the old site in the relaunch that will get exploited. If they take too long though, there's a large risk that a lot of users start to move on.

@Pointless Debater It's not unlikely that they will start fresh on the server, but move the 4chan services to a VM/Jail using whatever backup they cobbled together, and just spin up another one if/when it gets hacked. The again, anyone sane would've realize it's beyond saving at this point, but when your sysops are less competent than fucking ED they might actually try to fix it. Who knows.

I think you could rephrase the explanation of the exploit to be a bit more concise. You should also clarify it was the PDF upload feature that was exploited, as this is an important detail. Pic related.

4chan doesn't create culture, it subsumes it.

You could honestly say that about the entire internet. There are too many people on it and now there are way to many third worlders to create an online "community". At the same time, do we really want "community"? I kind of see the internet as a place to shoot the shit more than anything else. Something like community is something you build in the real world with friends, family and possibly co-workers. Besides, internet communities always end in some weird shit or grooming.
