During my years on /r9k/, I saw barely any of these tranny threads, although I did see them. It was mostly a variety board. Surprisingly, there was more transphobia on /r9k/ than troonslop.
Most posts I saw on /r9k/ were posts by chudcels and etc. I would sometimes vent on /r9k/ when Im not shitposting.
Funny thing about websites is that if there are no rules, its an anarchaic RW shithole. But if theres only 1 singular rule, then it becomes an tranny shithole like r/196 or /r9k/
I know this wasn't the point of the post, but seriously why can't cis girls look like that anymore?

I can go with the occams razor idea of "it's just that nobody bothered to try" but I'm really liking the schizo theory that this is just the first 4chan hack like this that we've heard about, and various shades of THEM! have done this before and were more subtle about what they did or who they contacted with the info gathered.

4chan isn't as popular as it used to be. Sure, it still gets (from estimates I see online) around 20 million unique visitors a month, but it doesn't have the popularity it once did nor is it as much of the center of internet culture as it used to be.

It's certainly not the first time someone tried to hack it, or the first time someone succeeded (someone got some of the PHP source code for the site circa 2014).

4chan has also used Cloudflare as its CDN for a number of years, which can offer protections sitting in the middle of the site server and the end user, such as web application firewall rules (WAF) that match patterns of known malicious traffic. (WAF rules can effectively stop a lot of exploit attempts before they reach servers - they were a popular mitigation step as the log4j vulnerabilities broke on the internet and internet sites scrambled to patch tons of services).

This exploit was a little unusual in that most boards on 4chan don't permit the upload of PDFs, but a few do. What actually exploited the site here wasn't really a PDF as the hacker explained - 4chan used a version of the Ghostscript library from 2012 that didn't have proper input validation (it didn't validate what it was being given was a PDF) and instead they uploaded a file with PostScript commands and gave it a bogus PDF file extension. Those PostScript combined with the ancient Ghostscript library allowed running of commands. From there, they had a binary (executable) with bad permissions on the OS level that gave them a path to root (*NIX operating system administrator) and you have your run of the castle.

Still, the idea that someone breached into 4chan years ago and just lurked silently is far from implausible. We're talking about a site administration that had software versions of their backend on end of life vulnerable versions for nearly a decade. The idea that a hacker that did not want to be as disruptive/noisy/loud as possible going and and being unnoticed is completely plausible. If someone didn't want to call the janitors soy or max out the CPU mining Bitcoin or whatever, it's entirely possible they sat there quietly for years doing god knows what (most likely exfiltrating data).

You clearly missed the pinkpill years if you barely saw tranny threads.

Is there a specific reason why the 4chan admins aren’t giving a timeline as to when the site will be so back lol
They have no idea when the site is going to be restored. Your house doesn't burn down in a fire and you go "it'll be rebuilt in a month". You do your insurance claims, you find out if the foundation is fucked, water is contaminated, availability of a construction crew, are you rebuilding it in the same way or making changes, etc...

They have to take inventory on reinstalling servers, moving data over, are they even going to retain the existing site software, what backend software/libraries have to be updated, what the steps are and required changes and testing, what required changes to the site source code are (to minimally make it work, and then to make sure it isn't vulnerable to hackers), etc...

Unless they're going to just set up new board software, if they do this properly it's a multi-week endeavor.

I'm pretty sure I remember when pdf support first was rolled out a lot of chatter of "lol how many seconds until this goes badly" because of how notorious pdfs are about security.
So the idea that NOBODY tried this seems really really unlikely for me.
There's a guy on ycombinator that claims he proved RCE doing something with EXIF years ago, but basically fucked off and said nothing about it and didn't use it to gain access. Here it is: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43698499

The /vt/ trannyjanny who was encouraging hatred of men, encouraging hating animu streamers who collabed with men and encouraged watching only "cute girls doing cute things".
This is why their Twitter is also private. Dude is beyond toast. They are probably going to call the guy's parents and remove his internet Privileges. Even if bro retires from the 4Chan life. It will haunt that dude for the rest of his gay life.

.moe isn't, but the /v/ janny keeps threadlocking my threads and should be raped by a pack of feral niggers.
i guess i just grew out of /v/ideo gays and dont have much to say about them anymore. i dont play any, and havent in like 6 or 7 years.

always chapped my ass /mu/ never really had a hardware production general or eurorack general.
