  1. Building the site from the ground up, at least from a backend version perspective, is a matter of either flattening the old server (wipe the drives, clean install) and reinstall OS, PHP, MySQl etc... from a frontend perspective that is more challenging. The site code is garbage as is. Some people on Soyjak Party are talking about updating it to run on modern PHP versions, but that isn't a comprehensive overhaul for security. Even if these anonymous people do it, will Hiroyuki trust random strangers offering site work for free? Do they have the competent staff or willingness to invest money to get the site fixed properly (the former is unlikely if they ran software versions of PHP, FreeBSD, etc. that were end-of-life for nearly a decade.
  2. Another completely valid question. If I had been a jan/mod on 4chan (I have never been either) and I got doxxed in all of this, I would want to be 1,000 miles away from anything to do with the site going forward.
  3. Another reason they can't give an instant answer. They may farm out the CAPTCHA to an alternate solution given the breach. Hard to say.
  4. I'm going to (largely) set this one aside because there are enough unknowns in here already other than to say if the site is restored there's a good chance site mods/jans get complacent again.
In an earlier post in this thread I did mention the challenges of whether the mods/jans will want to come back (among other things).

They're talking the talk of "the site will be back" right now but talk is cheap. By all visible accounts, they haven't even finished the damage inventory (not just of the site and software, but how much information is out there) or what will be required to build it. There's a very good chance that the site in its current form does not return.

We had a couple in the EDH thread on /tg./ Squirrelfag, Thaliafag, and Gay Bolas.

My most hated was Swordbro. Some fat ugly hagrid-lookalike who tripfagged and shit up the thread with the most vapid and pointless posts and replies.

I remember someone asked me why had such a revulsion to tripfags, especially ones of such a frivolous nature, and I felt so old. "What's the problem anon, he isn't doing anything wrong?"

Gonna sound like a boomer but "back in my day" it was your fucking duty to bully all tripfags off the board. I could name you maybe 3-4 very niche exceptions but that's it.

What kind of person do you think it's going to select for? I think the moderation team is going to be left with the lolcows who enjoy attention, or who pounce during the site's moment of weakness.

I never used 4chan that often after it started becoming less interesting but i vaguely remember a furry who was often post links to some shitty mp3's of himself whining about his life and pissing in empty bottles he would drink from at night when he was too thirsty to go and get water from the kitchen or some retarded shit like that.
