My KeePass database dates back to 2012. Plenty of entries in it outlived services they were meant for. Initially I synced it to cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive, but now I do a local sync via Syncthing and Unison. Got a copy on all my drives of my PC, on my phone and on my laptop. Never have I lost access to it, nor have I lost the database itself, nor have I ever lost access to any of my accounts.

It's cross-platform, it's a single file so there's a multitude of ways to keep it safe and synced so you can have your passwords on-hand at any time, unlike with a text book at your home you'd have to haul around. KeePassXC is a good desktop client and KeePassDX is a good Android client. So if you're gonna look for a password manager, I'd recommend KeePass over BitWarden due to it's local and decentralized nature. No singular server, no singular client. Just an ecosystem of software to read and write a specific file format.

Most importantly: in this scenario, to even obtain the database to crack it, you'd need to obtain full access to one of my personal devices, by which point all of these questions cease to matter, I'd be thoroughly fucked and my database would be the least of my concerns. The threat model needed for this to be a concern, and all the work and logistics needed to pull it off are so off-balance that it's a 0.000001% chance of happening.

Once the target are your personal devices and not some major """uncrackable""" server like LastPass, then the likelihood of your passwords getting leaked decrease dramatically. LastPass was bound to happen since it was essentially a pinata full of passwords with a big red target painted on it. Like the "you will never get this" scene from Borat. Then one day he leak the database and he gets it, high five!

Now ask yourself this: are you this big of a target that you'd have to worry about someone trying to get physical/remote access to your device for these worries to bother you? No? Then worries about data corruption/master password loss/remote access/synchronization are just a matter of using the right tools and due diligence.

it'll probably take them a very long time to get the site back up. I feel like they don't really have a responsible server administrator, and whoever is fixing this is basically going to need to:
1. Reformat the entire device.
2. Reinstall 4chan.
3. Restore 4chan's database to the last save state, if available.

But who is the person responsible for this? Does anyone know how to do this? They're running it on FreeBSD, last updated in 2019. Does ANYONE Hiroyuki has contact with actually know how 4chan actually works right now, enough to completely reformat a server and get this running?

Extremely common. One general I used on 4chan had two, one would samefag and avatarpost and spam webms of his gameplay. Another hated him because he was an attention whore and virulently hated anyone who got more attention than him, so he would spam the thread with multiple devices with porn and gore anytime the first guy would post. Janitors of course wouldn't lift a finger to stop any of it, maybe come in after a few hours to delete the rulebreaking pictures but leave most of the spam up.

Seeing other refugees sharing some board stories. I'll tell you a little bit about the deplorable state of /an/ - Animals and Nature

It had its typical generals for cats, dogs, rats, reptiles, aquariums. Ape/pongo generals. It was pretty OK but got really bad during the pandemic. In particular there was one schizo whose entire belief system was that the fictional Hollywood movie Jurassic Park had 100% anatomically correct dinosaurs and any other depictions of them that did not 100% align with it were false and wrong and the result of the Chinese creating fake fossils and trying to turn the West into trannies. Y'know, the usual rigamaroo. He especially did not like feathers in any depictions. He would create numerous threads just shitting his pants over this stuff. Here's 2 of his most recent ones before the site went down

He's done this for years at this point and people always reply because it's low-hanging fruit, he was very active in the threads, and /an/ jannies were virtually non-existent. Eventually came along another individual that was all pro-science and all for incorporating new findings into one's understanding of the world. He coined the above guy "paleoschizo". Both of them would quarrel endlessly. Whole dino threads would just be those 2 arguing. However it would get so bad that he would start hallucinating and seeing the paleoschizo everywhere, especially in non-dino threads. People eventually started calling him the "paleoschizo-schizo" It got real bad. How bad you say?

I'd wager ~90% of those posts are the paleoschizo-schizo, the other 10% complaining about the paleoschizo. Here's a random sampling of the former screeching over the latter:

The /dog/ general had a Telegram group with legitimate zoophiles. One of them confirmed to have fucked his dog. He posted pictures to the general of his semen on the dog, along with very close-up pictures of the dog's pussy (search for "Anya" in the archives if you're so inclined)
CONSTANT cat/dog console warring. One very mentally ill individual would occasionally spam like 30 threads in 30 minutes with shit like "cats won" (or "dogs won" depending on how he felt that day)
