It has become abundantly clear to me over the past year or so that the mods/jannies want to keep /tg/ aligned with certain narratives. Alot of them are actively hostile, negative, or simply promote shitflinging. Just like Reddit, /tg/mods have a very specific dedication to what they think tabletop SHOULD be, and will actively protect anyone who attacks dissenters because it drives those people away.
This is the case for most TTRPG spaces online in general. There are a few okay ones oriented towards game design in places like Discord or random forums but given the nature of those platforms it's already obvious what you can expect. Where /tg/ is retro to the max in the most faggoty way, most modern places are so far in the opposite direction that you've got people legitimately arguing about what a "game" even is, and if a TTRPG "needs to be one". (Pro Tip: it does.) The kinds of people that make "solo journaling RPG's about a transgender journey of self discovery" and think it's actually high art.
It breaks my heart because the handful of times I found some of the "normal" folk left on /tg/ the discussions are still wonderful.
I have met some fantastic people on 4chan. Despite having the reputation it does, I've only ever had
positive personal experiences with people I've met. Ironically, people from places like Reddit or Twitter tend to be significantly more "toxic" and aggressive. A pain in the ass to deal with really.
And worst of all, like you said, where the fuck do you go?
Before the /tg/ thread I mentioned a while ago got nuked, people there seemed generally acclimated towards the idea of going to 8chan.moe or here. Kiwifarms has a relatively okay TTRPG thread and spaces for wargaming discussion. There's a thread for it on 22chan run by some guy LARPing as a wizard that's dead and that's where our options lie. Pick your poison, none of them are perfect, but it's better than RPGpub.
Just curious, does all the /tg/ drama have to do with the tranny community trying to force themselves into the 40k lore?
Sort of, but 40k is only a fragment of the scene and a really fucking annoying one at that. I prefer to ignore it and wargaming in general. Aside from that however, there's also huge amounts of drama and controversy surrounding games like D&D 5e or random shit like Cyberpunk or indie titles, which I'm completely in the dark about. There's actually a thread about this very subject on our very helpful benefactors Kiwifarms.st website
right now that you can go and read about it if you're interested.
The post quality of the board just went to the fucking gutter, filled with retards and trolls who would make the most ridiculous leaps in logic and bad faith perspectives just to start fights.
This was the most frustrating part of /tg/ and quite literally the cut that killed the cat. It's such an engaging and interesting hobby that there's an endless ocean of things to say about it but the moderation was deadset on making sure
NOTHING of quality was posted,
EVER.
