Pitiful, but unsurprising. /vr/ was the only board on the entire site that I thought was worth a donkey turd, and that was when it launched a decade ago or so.
That's why my conspiracy theory is, there are paid advertisments or viral marketing campaigns. I remember years ago some marketer dropped the act while /v/ was trolling his threads about some new game no one was interested in and lost it. It's why 4chan doesn't really need ads or subscribers, the value is from controlling opinion and viral marketing, or don't you remember?
There is 100% paid shills on 4chan, it has been proven beyond the shadow of the doubt. Real question is if jannies are in on it or not, probably yes since that revenue stream isn't coming from the japanese sex toy ads.
This pic contains info on the game that wasn't public back then. I forgot what it was. Borderlands was I believe a confirmed ad campaign. Bioshock infinite wasn't, but the OPs were often very similar, featuring a list of features like you would see on the back of a box. So I'm pretty sure that was advertisement as well. The problem is is that most of the new people think that (You)s=upvotes. And care about getting replies above all. So half the threads are not actual shills, they're just desperate anons that want (You)s and pretending to be a shill gets them that attention.
Now that I think about it, (You) = upvote is a good way of describing one of the issues with nu-4chan, most users will pretend to be retarded.
I noticed it going up after 4chan got an inline extension that added (You)s to the average used. Might just be that at the same time a bunch of retards joined the site, but I blame the inline extension for causing people to be more addicted to baiting for replies.

What? You mean 4chanX? That is an external extension, I'm talking about the built in one. There was a point when 4chan did not have (You)s. Clicking on a >>number would move you to that point rather than opening it in the post. New posts weren't automatically fetched, and instead you had to F5.
