And there you had a moderator that took care of it. On 4chan they just let people scream and derail a thread for hours and then kill the entire thread. You can make it work, but you have to actually put in the effort.

You don't have to. Trudeau blocking the truckers their bank accounts, UK using their anti-porn law to block non-porn sites and the EU working hard to get a similar law passed should tell you enough. Hell, trannies almost managed to make using the wrong pronouns a criminal offence.
 
I've been on the internet for a while now and I've seen plenty of message boards either die in flames or wither until there are no users left. My advice is to have fun while it lasts, because even the most seemingly eternal place on the internet can be an hero'd faster than anyone expects. "Don't cry because it over, smile because it happened".

From what I remember, /v/'s always had a small subset of /v/irgins who hated e-celeb threads. I also recall there being some threads about EasyAllies and TwoBestFriends with little to no pushback because the threads were just shooting the shit and talking about their stuff. I think at the time that subset wanted /v/ to be "/b/ 2.0 with side of vidya", mostly being interested in shitposting about lolcows, specifically DSP, LowTierGod or AngryJoe -- a lite Kiwifarms. I can't find it now, but there's a shitpost "/v/ approved" e-celebs collage that's pants on head retarded. Sometime around Gamergate or maybe a little prior, thread's started focusing more and more on petty drama and the personal lives and less about the content e-celebs made.

As for Matt, he was a former /v/irgin who made in-depth vidya essays and was pretty well respected among other /v/tards at the time. 8/10 times his threads are majority on topic, mostly arguing over his opinions/analysis, while the rest of the time is fanbase wars pitting him against Joseph Anderson, another vidya essayest, or other e-celebs.
Other than sharing what projects he's doing, games he's playing or having his gf on stream, he's very private about his personal life and wasn't very active on social media or collabed with other e-celebs, so there's not much drama on him for /v/ to gossip about.
(Edit: Forgot to add he's most notable for his Dark Souls critiques)

I looked at the first study and "Porn causes lower gray matter in the brain" is not an accurate summary at all. All it says is that people who use porn for more hours of the day have less gray matter. The cause and effect are almost surely the other way around: it's not that porn is making people dumber, it's that dumber people are looking at porn more.

Of course, you can't be 100% sure of the cause and effect directionality, but there are studies about porn usage by race, and it is as you would expect: dumber races look at porn more, with blacks consuming it the most. Blacks have less gray matter and lower cortical volume. So unless porn is turning people black, the cause and effect direction is known in that case.
