A few communities where the 4chan threads are particularly cancerous, schizo/spammer plagued and unusable have semi-permanently moved elsewhere, such as the gacha board on 8moe, and I think /vt/ splintered into multiple homeboards.

But is it not mostly just gacha and vtuber crap? They realized that their threads weren’t getting proper treatment and left. I can’t believe that gacha and vtuber cattle had more brain cells than most fandoms who cope on 4chan still

Any board can basically be mucked up by one ban evading schizo thanks to the wonders of anonymity and low moderation resources to fight it. Vtuber and gacha boards/generals just tend to attract some of the worst. There's a pretty infamous ban image of a guy on /vt/ posting a controversial opinion and then responding to himself about 40 times and even carrying out full conversations with himself before the mod that banhammered him pulled the curtain back.
 
The /vt/ screencap was staged. It's as real as all of the faked discord screenshots where it's like

It's all smoke and mirrors to distract the pseuds and normalfags that make up most of 4chan these days from the actual issues. It's no different to accusing random posters you don't like of being Barry/Eric/poopfartschizo/[insert boogeyman]. Which is an almost weekly occurence in this very thread btw
 
Tampermonkey with 4chan XT (the old plug-in for 4chan X was broken the last time I checked) with a fix to adjust for the captcha not required has solved most of my 4chan-related issues. Userbase is horrible though.
 
It's insane how much friction there is for first-time users on 4chan, not surprising that activity has been declining. If you access the site on a fresh IP you have to sit through multiple timers that can bug out and reset, then solve a long and retarded captcha sequence that's harder for first-time users, etc.

Moe is still the most active altchan right now, or at least one from the webring. For better or for worse, a good portion of 8chan rapefugees post/used to post there. If you looked hard enough, there is also pedo related drama in almost every single one of the webring sites(most infamously, on Julay) outside of that. Honestly, just depressing situation all around for imageboards in general since late 2010s.
 
Easy Mode would be to just shut 4chan down, but if saving it were left up to me, I'd addopt a tough love, 0 tolerence policy -- among other things -- with some exceptions.
I recall Moot said he tried this approach with /v/ at one point and was met with pushback, so he just threw his hands up saying they can have their /b/ 2.0 with a side of /v/idya and now look how that's turned out years later. Call me a power tripping rulefag or a Redditor if you want, but the community's shown they absolutely cannot police themselves without some sort of authority to guide them properly, so there needs to be a hard cap on the ghetto behavior. If they act like delinquents, then they'll be disiplined as such. I'm going boot camp on these faggots.
 
I got the "two stars with five spikes" a few times, then it's back to "the one different shape"

The funniest of this scenario imo is when one of these boards agrees with what's actually a very popular opinion, but they can't just hold a popular opinion oh no, they have to spin it as some le epic contrarian thing by conjuring up boogeymen to show how contrarian, brave and counterculture their opinion is.
