Apart from those two, you mentioned anything new going on with old school RTS games ? Because I only know the old shit like C&C, Age series, Warcraft etc.
Relic had hints that they would revisit Dawn of War, especially after the middling reception of Company of Heroes 3. That's it though.

Thinking about it, Iron Harvest, while a bit rough around the edges, was truly the last decent old-school RTS.

Imagine trusting Rekt with Dawn of War. CoH 3 was shit, AoE 4 was shit, DoW 3 was MEGA SHIT. Relic hasn't made a good game since DoW2, we just tolerated the mediocrity of CoH2.

I guess this is where I will Strategos post when it comes out. Death to CA and rip /twg/, gone but not forgotten.

NEBULOUS: Fleet Command Devlog #37: On Campaign
Most recent devlog for NEBULOUS, a real-time tactical space naval combat game, detailing the early work on its singleplayer/co-op campaign. It's been in EA for 3 years without much other than a tutorial in terms of singleplayer content outside CPU skirmish. A lot of the negative reviews are about the lack of singleplayer. It's a valid complaint, but not a big one for me. A decent amount of my hours are in the fleet builder and testing mode. I haven't done much matchmaked/comp PvP, just friends I've bought the game for on sale. The CPU opponents are alright.

Anyone ever play Cossacks or American Conquest?
Haven't played American Conquest for almost 20 years, but I did replay Cossacks few years ago, still very stupid, but also very fun game, then I tried Cossacks 2 for the first time and never felt more "it is a good game, but bad X game".

I just wanna enjoy old school RTS. Currently playing WC3 and CoH1. Sadly Tempest Rising and Stormgate looks like shit.
Perhaps Godsworn could scratch that itch?

People who expect 4x map painting elements will be disappointed.

As someone who didn't grow up with either, but I own Cossacks 1, 2 and 3 (ie 1 remastered but sold like a new game).
Cossacks 1 I saw very little appeal in. I was interested in its historical campaigns but it put me to sleep.
Cossacks 2 has tons of potential, but I find it very frustrating often times. I think it's a little poorly designed that matches so easily go tits up so fast (AI always early rushes, it makes or breaks them, entire game can turn on that first volley).

What does everyone think of the new Age of Empires 2 DLC coming out? It looks like it is going to be a pile of shit.
The free part looks good, with unique castles for everyone and regional monks, but that's technically just the patch releasing alongside the DLC. I don't think anyone, even the Chinks, wanted the Three Kingdoms.

Were the Age of Kings/Age of Conquerors campaigns always hard or did the DE make them tougher and then screwed up the balancing with patches? Maybe I just suck?

Anyone else annoyed that every strategy game this year is about chink shit? AoE2, CK3, and a bunch of others are all releasing some kind of china based content this year, and its such an obvious pull to get that sweet chinky money that its demoralizing. Chinks are some of the most annoying, entitled fuckers to have in your game's fanbase, and for some of these games (CK3 in particular), spending a year fixing the game's already existing shortcomings would have been far more appreciated than introducing new ones in a transparent attempt to get tencent money. Fuck chinks.

Yeah. AOW4 having chink DLC was an out of place one. Or was it Japan based? I have them mixed all the time.

Oh they will be, that's why it's really best to keep expectations realistic. I personally just want large scale battles utilizing old Total War mechanics.

Coincidentally was replaying American Conquest not too long ago. When it hits right it feels great but otherwise it is pretty rough. Forts friendly firing my guys with no option to turn it off makes me sad.

Honestly CK3 adding China as a part of the map is really going to lag the game. I don't even understand why India was added in CK2. It is sad because medieval Chinese history is super interesting but I doubt that CK3 (a game built on European Feudalism) will be able to simulate the way the Chinese governed. I would just recommend CK2, the way they simulate the Chinese Empire is simple and interesting.

Why was thread name changed?
Not all strategy games follow 4x formula.

Besides that subgenre peaked with MoO 1.
