I think a little of both. I have heard it before but Phil may have revitalized it a bit.

I'm kind of surprised there was a shitstorm because this is only the 1000th time DSP has stated this. I guess before he did it on stream where he has a platform of a couple hundred, mainly fans (Allah knows why), whereas Twitter has a platform of a billionty people. He truly never dropped that King of Hate gimmick. Even John Cena has changed his up a bit over the years. Phil likes wrestling, he should know every wrestler has to change up their gimmick when it isn't over with the fans.

I saw him on his first stream today. I was actually watching someone who streams Dead By Daylight four times a week rather than Phil but I did note the DBD streamer had literally twice the number of people watching despite it being a game a lot of people have quit and Phil playing a new release.

Yeah the "unless you do X you are not a real gamer" thing has been around for quite a while, people like to use it to claim people who only play mobile games are not true gamers, console-plebs are not true gamers etc. Anything that is supposed to make your own argument or side more valid than the other.

I don't know. It's now a job title that people apply for so it's not that all that out there if the company posts for that position and a person is hired for that thing and to use it. I'm sure social media coordinator seemed like a funny/dumb job title a few years ago too, but now it's relevant and even expected for large companies and brands. There's plenty of job descriptions that have the same responsibilities with some fancy title.
