For all we know that could also apply to Chris throwing twitter tantrums or Chris acknowledging Hirtes's existence.

Or hell, maybe Chris is about to tard out real bad for another reason than Barb dying.

...or he just wandered off onto the streets because it was literally no different than living with the Chandlers. That's the main assumption. Or at least it should be.

Or a box fell on top of him and he became one with the hoard. I know people are joking about it, and it's kind of upsetting to think about, but shit like that happens with hoarders, no joke. I hope the cat is okay of course, but the possibility is a reality, unpleasant as it may be...

It's what killed the Collyer Brothers. One was crippled and blind and the other was a crazed doctor who started making booby traps after the niggos in the Harlem neighborhood tried to break in due to unsubstatiated rumors of there being large sums of cash and valuables in the house. They had roughly 140 tons of hoard. One of the booby traps was triggered and killed the doctor. Homer, the blind one (yes I realize how funny that is since Homer the Bard was blind too), apparently died of dehydration since he depended on his brother to take care of him. I'm really surprised that hasn't happened to the Chandlers yet.

The Chandlers are the poor white trash version of them. Sorbet probably didn't get away, he became consumed by the hoard...

Read through the thread and I didn't see anyone talking about the fact that Chris had Barb's name in the missing cat ad, this tells me that she could very well be "mentally there" enough to be able to answer the phone and deal with people other than Chris.

:offtopic:I think, but I saw a youtube video about that actually. Down the Rabbit Hole I think? Something like that... Shit's interesting.

Back on topic: hoards can (and will) kill. Shit's no joke. They can crush people (if they're bad enough) and they're major fire hazards, etc. I mean I really hope Sorbet didn't merge with the hoard, but it's a serious, kind of depressing possibility.

Why are you saying "they"? Sorbet is a boy, just say "he".

Does anyone know how old Sorbet is? I think Chris has taken care of him fairly well, cats are easy to take care of and it's not his fault he ran off and was hit by a car. It happens to a lot of good pet owners.

Sorbet's gender slipped my mind at the time of the post, hence the non gender specific language.

And as a pet owner myself, I consider it immaterial. Chris cares enough about his pet to worry about their well being, which speaks well for him.

What gets me is that he waited a week before bugging out about his missing cat.

Some people think it was the smart thing to do. I personally find it odd, myself - especially considering the fact CWC acts like the cat means the world to him. If he loved that cat as much as he says he does, he would have been bemoaning Sorbet's absence weeks ago instead of spending the duration of it talking about his poly relationship with fictional characters, begging for money and screaming at trolls.

There's nothing wrong with letting cats outside.

Sure there is.

If you live near traffic, the odds of them getting hit by a car rises exponentially. If you live near the woods, you risk them getting eaten by wild animals, getting caught in traps, the cat getting parasites by eating wild game (birds, field mice, etc), the cat getting infested with ticks and fleas (the latter two resulting in ridiculously high vet bills to see them treated).

If you're going to own a cat, it's always the better option to keep a cat indoors.

I think I might have called back then that getting hit by the car really shortened Sorbet's life, and if I didn't call it somebody else did. Apparently even in August Sorbet was in bad shape.

Dammit Chris, this is the second known time you've indirectly killed a cat in less than five years. (:_(

The second time? WTF?

Can cat people fill me in? I know a lot of people just let their cats outside unattended and just assume they'll come back.. I also know people who have a don't let the cat go outside policy, they'll never come back. Is every cat different or does it depend on the environment? Obviously i'm aware of barn cats and stuff, but chris lives in a more trafficked suburban environment, is it appropriate to let them out there?

I know with dogs, depending on where you live, it's a terrible idea to just let them go outside unattended for hours. They'll either get hit by a car darting back and forth between streets or find some way to cause serious destruction. You pretty much only let them out in a fenced in area. Even if there was no danger of cars, you let dogs out and they find each other, they get super riled up. Do cats just sort of chill when they get out?

How often do cats want to go out? How long do they usually stay out there? What do they do? And when does it become weird they don't want to come back in?

There’s a bit of a disconnect between how people regard cats and their ability to take care of themselves and the reality. Last time I checked, the best guess at an average age for cats with outdoor access in the US is 3 years, because so many are killed at a young age, usually as a result of traffic. I imagine the figure is about the same here in the UK. Considering that a kitty can potentially live to over five times that age, it’s a pretty shockingly low average when we tend to think that we do pretty well by our cats.

In very simplistic terms, the difference between the relationships cats and dogs have with their owners is this: dogs see their owners as “dear leader” who is to be loved, obeyed and followed. Cats see their owner as more like a parent. If you absolutely shower it with affection and attention, you’ll probably end up with a perma-kitten that will want to spend as much time as possible with you and happily spend most of its life indoors as a result. If you’re just basically nice to your cat, the relationship is more akin to something like that in Harry Chapin’s Cat’s in the Cradle (har-de-har). The cat will basically become more independent and do its own thing and affection is only for when it’s in the mood and it’s convenient.

***

Three things may have happened to Sorbet. In order of likelihood:
  1. Sorbet has been killed by traffic.
  2. Sorbet has found a new home
  3. Sorbet is chilling out in a change of scene and will return to 14 Branchland Court when he’s ready.

Don't forget the neighbor cat he claimed he got killed.

I forgot about that, it's hard to feel much sympathy for Chris now. He's here crying over his lost cat when the Chandlers probably caused some kid to cry over his dead one. Wherever Sorbet is, I hope he's happy and safe with a family that will treat him right and that Chris never gets him back.

In an older thread about Sorbet being stuck in a room in 14 Branchland Court, I made a post about the fact that these hicks should not be allowed to have animals.

I still fucking stand by that. These cave trolls can barely take care of themselves, the animals deserve better

If I had a say in the matter, the Chandlers wouldn't have any pets due to their finances being so volatile that it wouldn't allow for any emergencies. BUT, of all the types of pets they could have cats are the most suitable for them due to the low effort of care they have to provide.

I do wonder if Chris has called the local shelters to make sure no one brought him in.
