This movie honestly is awesome, there's a torrent for the screener somewhere out there. The first half is pretty eh, but in the second half SHTF and I ended up feeling pretty uncomfortable by the end. I love Nick Cage.

Lovecraft's stories are all shitty and boring as shit but I'll watch it for Cage.
They can be adapted into some pretty good stuff, tho. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was actually a fairly decent game for it's time. That part where the Innsmouth residents basically come to murder you in the night leading to you having to escape along treacherous ledges was pretty fucking exciting.

Skimming this thread because I don't want spoilers but UK release date? Can't find it showing here anywhere.

I just watched this and holy shit what a great fucking movie. Nic Cage is at his absolute Cagiest, he flips out at his daughter in one scene and it might be one of his all time best. Richard Stanley might not be able to adapt a Hg wells novel without having a meltdown and going walkabout but he can make a hp lovecraft movie like nobody's business. Does this mean Nic Cage is easier to work with than Val Kilmer? Anyway I don't know when it's coming to cinemas in Australia, but I am definitely going to go see it on the big screen. The monster effects were mostly well done, slightly overexposed but mostly great, the visual effects were immersive and the insanity was mostly fantastic. Also Ward Phillips is black, which is amusing. I would genuinely put this up with mouth of madness, event horizon, and jurassic park.

Butthurt Niggerman detected.

How would you compare it to Mandy? I just saw that and fucking loved it.

It's more lucid than mandy but otherwise very similar, I would probably rate Mandy as a better film, but color is way more lovecraftian naturally. Also while I am recommending horror films, you should try to get your hands on Daniel Isn't Real, which was produced by the same people as Mandy I think. I promise it isn't a gay porno, even though it appears that way throughout the first half hour.
