A few weeks ago, Google announced some new top level domains - Domains include .dad .prof .phd and more. What could go wrong.

Google Registry has launched some of the most popular (and secure) top-level domains, such as .app and .dev. Today, we’re adding eight new extensions to the internet: .dad, .phd, .prof, .esq, .foo, .zip, .mov and .nexus. Read on to learn who’s already using these domains.

Since the 10th of may, Domains like .dad .prof and .phd are publically available as well as domains like .mov .zip for "techies". Now pajeets and ruskies can hack into your closest boomers' PCs easier than before, great job Google.

You are right, it doesn't. Archives do show that these domains existed already, but perhaps not publicly available

Who the fuck says "zippy" in the Year of our Lord 2023? We already got postal codes, a file archiver, floppy disks and who knows what else named ZIP over the same reasoning, and it already felt like "dad-speak" or the equivalent of a britfag calling a screwdriver a "pip pip gollywock"


The archiver is what people think of when reading "zip", no ifs or buts. And people relate it to a zipper now thanks to the Windows icon, not to the idea of "fast" which it no longer is.
