This post is very important. Read all of it.
Three years ago we were the CWCki Forums. At peak hours, we would hit 20 active users. We'd probably get fewer than 100 unique visits a day.
Things are different. This is not three years ago. We have a cute banner, a pretty layout, and a tidy comic sprawl decorating what is essentially a huge insult to many people.
Every day, 1500 people sign in to their forum accounts. We get on average 2000 posts per day. This makes us about as busy as some of the largest boards on 8chan.
Every day, we get over 10,000 unique guests.
And another major difference -- who we look at. Before, the narrow definition of a Lolcow only incorporated people like Chris, or ADF, or Robert Wayne Stiles. People whose technical incompetence were a part of their amusement.
Today, we look at people like those who post on Tumblr. People who are a part of the 2000s generation and have never been through a time where a computer did not exist. They understand how Google works, how reverse lookup works, how to get around limitations and how to find people. They're probably as technically competent as you.
I've seen a massive increase in doxxing of users. This started with Gamerfood, went into Sluthate, I'm pretty sure someone on the forum was feeding dox to Shaner, and the Tumblr SJWs are now doxxing anyone they can to hurt the site.
When you registered, there was a warning message. Do not use a name you've used anywhere else. Do not use a name that belongs to your email address. Do not use a name that in any way relates to who you are. This is for your own good.
You should also be aware of what you post on the forum. Do not post images directly from facebook; rehost them. The URL can be used to identify you. Be careful with posting videos you've uploaded to YouTube and your social media accounts. When in doubt, make an account named "KiwiYourUsername" and upload shit there.
I can't baby all of you. I get PMs from people pretty much once a week at least saying, "help, this insane person doxxed me and wants to kill me". I'm sorry, but that shit happens. Happens to me, happens to everyone. Don't say anything on this forum that you don't want your real name and family portrait to sit next to.
We are beset on all sides by crazies. They hate us. They hate you. They especially hate me. I've been called everything from a stalker to a child rapist and that will never go away. Because of my unique disposition to web development and online communities, I'm able to get by and build things that support me. If you work in middle management, that time you harassed a retard into committing suicide won't look good when you're up for review. 8chan is more likely to overlook my involvement here than your boss is to overlook yours.
The Internet is scary. If you're scared, go to church. You knew the job was dangerous when you took it.
EDIT: If you change your email address to a temporary email you won't get a confirmation email and will be locked out of your account because it puts your account in an invalid state until you verify the email. I have 200 temporary email address sites blocked. Your email address is not a doxxing vulnerability because only staff see it.
