I think this is one of those questions I don't have to ask, but the Catch 22 of that line of reasoning is I can't know for sure that I don't need to ask unless I ask.

So I've been drawing this fan comic in the Sonichu section that is a combined parody of Sonichu and dark revivals of old children's media. For reasons related to the secondary parody there are unnecessarily dark moments, and because it's primarily a Sonichu parody these things happen to the characters from Sonichu.

Now up until now anything really bad has been relegated to exposition or back story, but I can definitely see myself going in a direction in the future where one or more Sonichu characters is gruesomely murdered or mutilated on-panel.

Now I'm certainly aware of the rule against sadistic death parodies of Sonichu, and I completely agree with it, but I feel what I'm doing is a sort of outlier. I think I know the kind of thing you're trying to discourage with that rule and I'm fairly certain that Sonichu Z does not fall in that category. I wouldn't just draw Sonichu characters dying for the sake of it, if ever I did it would be because it was a natural consequence of the story and parodying these kinds of dark revivals. However, I don't want to make that assumption and then get banned and my comic taken down.

So let's try a hypothetical situation that I'm not actually planning but might conceivably do something similar: let's say an evil troll is forcing Chris to choose between saving the life of Blazebob Sonichu or his PS3 and he chooses the PS3 and consequently Blazebob is graphically executed on-panel to drive home in a visceral way the monstrousness of the choice. Would that be violating the rules in any way?

I feel like it's kind of like nudity in art vs. pornography: it's not the presence of it, but how you use it that matters.

The rule of thumb with this sort of stuff is that: if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't.

What that rule aims to avoid is a situation in which the Sonichu board becomes dedicated to a-logging Chris' characters. The "tasteful" part of the rule would be like Asperchu where "he sets me on fire!".

If the entire point of the comic is to systematically eliminate characters in gruesome ways you should probably not do that.

That's the thing, I sort of feel like I don't really need to ask but I like to be thorough. I'm almost positive I have a sense of the vibe and that I'm within the spirit of the rules.

Yeah I'm basically talking about an Asperchu-level potential for violence. Not violence for it's own sake, violence when it drives the story.

Not at all, I can't imagine doing it more than once or twice over the run of the comic.

So should I take all this to mean that my hypothetical wouldn't be looked upon well?

It's your call. I don't know how its going to come out.

I personally wouldn't worry about it, but I'm sure the board appreciates your caution regardless. Tasteful is to shocking as Saw 1 is to Hostel.

As long as it's not A-Logging any Sonichu characters, it's fine with me.
