To butt in on the Debra Wilson conversation, and not to defend a black woman, but I always felt that the characters she played sucked ass because of the writing and face capture, not because it's Debra Wilson. Here she's alright, perfectly tolerable . She's your briefing officer but she's not grating or talking about communism (Wolfenstein anyone?). It just works

I agree it's usually the writers and directors making the character insufferable. She is inoffensive in AC8.

it's not just the characters, it's the shared and eternal dream of one day playing a game that doesn't have debra wilson in it.

did you know that unreal engine recently added a checkbox when you create a new project that automatically calls her agent for you?

That's a fair complaint. Japanese writers really don't do the same sort of sassy, cunty black girlboss thing that Western ones do.

She tells you what to do. She's your XO.
I think it's fine because they didn't give her the Debra Wilson bug eyes

🤮
A few things to keep in mind about the AC series’ formula is:

1. The first third or so of the game the enemies are arrogant and don’t see you as a threat while your allies try to hype you up at best or are neutral or slightly mocking you at worst.

2. Midway through the game to the end all of your allies exist to essentially wash your balls and polish your shaft while your enemies shit their pants in rage or fear of you as you buttfuck them in droves.

There is no real girlboss shit in AC. For example, much of AC7’s story centered around female characters including a princess but they aren’t insufferable like one would expect from a western studio.
yeah I contemplated this deeply during my playthrough and came to the same conclusion for the same reason

apart from that she's mostly just a disembodied voice, a mean-sounding robot with no personality which is good for an XO.
if there was such a thing as "actually suitable debra wilson casting" at this point i'd call it that. since there isn't, it at least succeeded in not pissing me off.
Well, good to know. I'll let it slide.

Seems like a lot of standard edition console pre-order copies got deluxe edition codes by accident, nice treat since I wasn't ever planning on spending an extra $20 for battle pass bullshit. Anyone know if the PS5 copy is also 2-discs like the Xbox? This is the first time I've seen a 2-disc game on current gen.

In regards to the game, the story cinematics and the relationship of Cope and Rex give me MGSV vibes, I'm expecting some Kojima-tier twists. I'm not too far into the campaign right now but so far the maneuvering feels heavier than AC7 and the cloud density is better too. Soundtrack is, as always, rock solid.

Edit: I opted to not follow any news on the game, I'm surprised the online mode has such a large open lobby. It reminds me a lot of Gundam Battle Operations 2, I wouldn't be surprised if Bamco used most of the team behind that for this lobby concept.

I don't think Baxter is good as my buddy Pixy, however I like him as much as Shamrock which is pretty high. I'm very thankful Katabuchi for once didn't shit the bed with Wingmen unlike the rest of the shit he's wrote as of mission 21.

I guarantee you almost nobody would even know it was her if they hadn't been told or looked at the casting. She does, generally, a solid job when she's relegated to voice acting alone and dipshit devs don't face scan her.
Agreed, Debra Wilson felt relatively unoffensive to me here. Helps that she doesn't look like Debra Wilson too.

Anyways, about the game itself, I liked it. Kick the next Sotoan you see into oncoming traffic.

I must be horrible because the first time I saw this symbol I thought

"Is that a swastika?"

Online doesn't seem to work for linux based on the steam forums. Single player mostly works on proton experimental.

I will report back later this week once it unlocks for me.
Working perfectly fine in Linux single player. Haven't attempted multiplayer, but it's not looking promising at the moment. It's not 2010, linux, steamdeck, steam machines, and steamOS are completely viable OS's for gaming.

Just completed mission 8 and happy to find out the headquarters is Bass Pro. These Sotoans really are scum to attempt to destroy the pinnacle of civilization that rests in Theve.

Could do with a less suicidal Kurt Cobain thought. Funny he's more upset at the band dying than his previous flight lead.

I do not like the process for choosing the team's planes. Too many animations, should just be a quick menu. I also don't seem to be able to give them different special weapons (or plane parts...)

Anyway off to more adventures of my totally not brain damaged pilot obsessing about numbers. I feel like the guy from Black Ops. WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN MASON

Hasegawa is producing the Mobius F-22 again.

This was at one of the major hobby stores in Australia, and even then they only had 2-3. The official AC model kits are too big for me to display, but if they made any in 1:72 scale I'd absolutely snap them up.

Like the info box you didn't read said, you can't. And it doesn't matter much since it's not like they need defence or do much shooting. They get two preset special weapons for each plane, usually an air and ground option.
That last part actually works in your favour a bit though, since you don't have to pay to unlock the presets they get. Which sounds like it wouldn't matter but it came up for me twice (most notably free double EW for Pinky I was never gonna fly myself).

There’s only one AC wingman better than Pixy, and that’s Chopper. You can’t change my mind.

I'm further into the story and the game's just had its 'Italian bistro' moment, where a Hobart-class destroyer (Australian) is just referred to as the Hobart.
There's also a moment when a soldier says Quebec which, while accurate to NATO phonetic alphabet, raises a question as to what even is Quebec in Strangereal

The Flu has been whopping my ass for a few days now, but I got medicine now and it has gotten me better to where I decided to try out Ace Combat Zero for PC

Cool that Splitscreen is still supported.
