Loss of sense of taste and/or smell can be a symptom of low zinc. So is lethargy. Zinc is also vital to fighting off infections, so you may have had low zinc to begin with. You need to supplement. A lot of people do, actually, as decades of industrial farming have depleted the soil of zinc leading to less of it in our food. Autistic people, people on SSRIs, and transwomen on HRT in particular need more. Start off with 50mg a day and if symptoms don't subside, gradually increase. Beware of taking too much as it causes the same symptoms as too little. But some people do need to take more; I take 150 mg a day and bad things happened when I tried to cut down.
