Does anyone have advice on how to obtain a copy of a 911 call, which is public record and whatever whatever under freedom of information something act, but that the police seem to be cagey about releasing?

I’m not trying to do anything *exceptional*, it’s for a research project I’m involved with. Seriously.

Any advice would be helpful 🌈

The Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, applies to the Federal government and not to states or local municipalities. I would look up 911 recording laws in your state and see what's going on -- it is very possible you may be totally unable to get the recording depending on state laws. If you have no connection to the case, most police departments will likely refuse to release a recording to a non-journalist out of concerns of privacy for parties involved.
