So holy fuck I just booked a ticket to LA from Australia. My Visa is incoming but I am super qualified and extremely accomplished by anyones standards in my field and am confident of getting a job pretty easy (heh I am certainly not a low-cost tech worker taking an entry level job). First thing on the list is a quick trip down to san diego after meeting a few people in LA and I get work rights really easy (I can get a better visa than an H1-B) without sponsorship.

Any americans here got any advice for someone putting their feet on american soil for the first time in LA? I will be hitting up San Diego as well and a few other locations in California for job interviews and such and as long as I don't do dumbass financial shit I am ok for cash but I wouldn't mind saving a few dollars as being unemployed is terrifying.

Sorry bub, you're beyond saving once you enter LA airspace. You are on your own.

My advice is stay in San Diego. I really cannot overstate how shitty LA is but San Diego has quite a few redeeming qualities. The homeless people are also not as scary. You can tell a lot about a major metropolitan area in the US by its homeless people and the LA homeless are among the worst.

Sounds like a reasonable plan tbh. I am really just landing in LA as a starting point and tbh the more I read about it the crappier place it looks for anything more than a pass through. I am more likely going to wind up in either San Diego or San Francisco based on what I am seeing and where the biotech presence is strongest. Eventually the family will be wherever I am as well and I have not heard anything good about the school system there.

Idk why the fuck you wanna move to California but may God have mercy apon you OP.

Let us know when you troon out.

Nobody will give a fuck about whatevers going on with you. Stay out of the tourist traps, stay away from the hood, and stay out of LA.

Plan on it taking at least 1 to 1.5 hours to drive anywhere, even if it's only 10-20 miles. The traffic is insane, and it doesn't matter what time of day it is. It is beyond maddening.
