It's a pity that parts of it are AI gibberish.

It's a phenomenon I've seen before, in which AI doesn't treat Japanese text as actual writing, but simply as visual patterns. The result is that it hallucinates characters which don't actually exist or mean anything. This doesn't seem to happen with English or any other alphabetical orthography.

Still, good to see that the Japanese are learning from our mistakes in dealing with niggers.

Do you speak Japanese? I ran it through AI earlier and it translated it into what the original said pretty closely. I couldn't tell if it was translating or just matched it to the original, though.

If you’re having this problem in memes, it is because the AI model is generating the image all at once, instead of generating the image first then overlaying the text. It happens in English too, like garbled signs in the background of generated images.

Newer models are better at this. You can probably also get a better result by first asking it to translate the text to Japanese (outputting it in text form) and then asking it to edit the image by replacing the English text with the provided Japanese translation

Yeah, that was how I could recognise the strange patterns. I've seen the phenomenon even in actual Japanese media in things like AI subtitle generation.

It just goes to show that AI, well, isn't. It can mimic the patterns of human text, but ultimately, it understands nothing, and so ends up creating characters that appear to an untrained eye to be like any other, but they're nonsense, like the graphic analogue to mumbling a word when you don't quite know how to pronounce it properly.

It happens in English too, like garbled signs in the background of generated images.

That's what funny: I have seen garbled English text in unimportant backgrounds , but never when the text is important and front-and-centre, as in the Shaqueesha meme. That only seems to happen with Japanese and Chinese,

Not exactly. That translation is fine as far as it goes, and while it does have unnatural grammar, it isn't wrong per se.

I picked one example from your list to illustrate, but there are plenty of others:

Aggressive/destructive toward white women

The text on the first line is normal, but the two characters I've selected in blue are nonsense. If they are to be translated as "destructive", then they are probably meant to be 破壊. Zoom in and compare, and note how grossly distorted they are. No human could recognise what they were supposed to be even with context.

And yet GPT still got the gist! Which means that AI isn't so much making up nonsense as it is corrupting real language, but still possessing the capacity to unfuck it back into human words. AI is talking to itself in a tongue we can't parse or understand. Disturbing.
