Nobody cares about Age of Shitmar
I've never played Age of Sigmar but bringing in my tzaangors and chaos daemons from 40k doesn't seem too hard and I'd try it. Some of the mechanics look really fun too, like the endless spells, though that definitely requires more models.

It is kind of shitty that they split the chaos demons into four different codex's, but for the most part bloodletters still hold up really well. I'm running stormcasts so the endless spells are pretty useless for me. Still a blast to play.

I like painting the minis because a lot of the newer designs are cool but the lore is extremely retarded so Fantasy is better in that aspect. However, I believe the main reason they changed the line was to make it easier to field smaller armies like you could in 40k. If you're ran an Undead or Goblin army with lots of cheap units that could get very, very expensive. That isn't a problem for old people with disposable income like me, but it's harder for teens and people who want to dip their toes into the hobby for the first time.

It feels like the lore is starting to go in a better direction, but holy shit was it a dumpster fire when it launched. No core book, no stories, no nothing, just medieval space marines. The pricing is an issue, but I like what they did being able to play a 750 point game so people can dip there toes in, some start collecting boxes will get you close, until you realize later down the line that you don't want to run any of these models and shelf them.

Aos bad but new chaos warrior miniatures are cool, but no great weapons tho. (I get making new torsos for great weapon poses would be a pain and wouldn't be feasible for an upgrade sprue but the new chosen look kinda lame)

I wonder about the lore, I enjoy the Gotrek books I read, especially the second making Goblins be a legitimate threat rather than a joke. The general lore I heard is a bit too grand in scale, without allowing much individuality.

3rd Edition AoS is much more fun than 9th Edition 40k, no contest. Of course, Kill Team and Warcry are better than both.

When it comes to WFB; yeah, I miss Tomb Kings and Chaos Dwarfs a lot, but it's not like either of these armies were supported very well. In their place are gorgeous ranges like Nighthaunt and the Kharadron Overlords, both of which are actually supported quite well.

AoS also has Cities of Sigmar, which is one of the most enjoyable armies GW has ever created. The sheer amount of flexibility is fantastic, and the fact that you can fold Sylvaneth, KO or Stormcast into your army without sacrificing viability is such a hoot.

They are starting to flesh it out, I do like how the lore/story actually moves along and doesn't feel that stagnant. Gotrek is still a good read but it really is not the same without Felix but I'm sure they will make up some magical way to make him come back. Plague Garden was one of the first books that gave some life into the setting, it's the reason I made my storm boys Hollowed Knights.

I suggest you look into Kings of War, rules are ace and it's a great way to get use out of oldhamner armies.

Gotrek went from practically never speaking to... speaking a novel as much he did the entire original series. It's actually better written than the original post Williham King books, Gotrek naturally slots in being a lot more outspoken due to grief, loneliness and outrage. He pretty much embodies the fans that needed time to accept the change to the setting. I like Maleneth skirting the line of being haughty and getting humiliated. Even the African warriors in the audio book felt natural rather than "We Wuz" crammed for diversity.

I wasn't that impressed with Plague Garden. I imagine the Garden of Nurgle as being more disgusting and bleak than depicted. Didn't help that the antagonists were the only interesting characters. Even Tornus was dull.

A novel I was fond of was Gloomspite, mostly because it showed what daily life in a Free City is like. It also elevated Grots into being truly evil little shits, and explained the effects of the Bad Moon on normal people (the description of it made me feel itchy).

Yeah I might be a little bias because I use Gardus in my army. Never read Gloomspite so I'll have to check that one out, I'm actually really interested in the cities of Sigmar as an army as well. I got into fantasy after the end times, so it's always cool seeing some older models being played.

i've been wanting to get into age of sigmar. is it worth it and if so where should I start.
Downloading the AoS app and having a look at the ranges is a good idea. Most of the armies have a starter box, and you can fill in gaps with cheap printed stuff if you don't plan on playing at official stores.

i'll probably use the cheap printed stuff to get started as friendly games with the boys. if i end up liking it ill roll into a official units.

post blown up fantasy world.
I know lore-wise that the world of Warhammer Fantasy had some kind of apocalypse, but why did GW do away with it entirely? Was Fantasy not selling or something, so they made AoS as a hard reboot?
