AI Art Seething General

It actually sets up as a decent counter to anti-ai sentiment but he loses me when he spouts about ai generated work "by itself" not being "art" because it's not created by humans because bla bla bla emotions or something and to add he also says it's too "overpowered" like that has anything to do with that.
>it's not created by humans

Do they think that AI spontaneously spawned on the Internet and prompting itself, zero people and emotions involved? lol

Since it was mentioned earlier, here's some Japanese artist big mad about AI (archived) and talking about how righteous it is that there's lawsuits over it. Makes the usual nonsensical arguments about how his pictures being considered by the AI somehow make it copyright infringement.

Is there actually a lawsuit in Japan against AI BTW? I know there's the really dumb fucking class-action suit in the US, but are Japs on this warpath too? That might be interesting since Japanese copyright is notoriously retarded and their courts are somehow even more braindead and owned by major corporations

My brother in Christ, attempting suicide bait for petty points on the internet is such a low thing to do, man.

All of this over Ai Generated content "taking dem jobs, you guiz". by the way, which still has a few quirks that need to be worked out (it's only now getting good at hands).

If you can't stay positive and figure out how to adapt to this changing landscape, maybe you shouldn't try to turn art into a profitable endeavor. If left unchecked, you'll only fly too close to the sun and plummet towards certain failure.

Trust me, hobbies should stay hobbies sometimes and not the sole defining aspect that determines your career path. Maybe learn to code.

You want seething? Here's seething:

In parallel, AI developers must work with policymakers to dramatically accelerate development of robust AI governance systems. These should at a minimum include: new and capable regulatory authorities dedicated to AI; oversight and tracking of highly capable AI systems and large pools of computational capability; provenance and watermarking systems to help distinguish real from synthetic and to track model leaks; a robust auditing and certification ecosystem; liability for AI-caused harm; robust public funding for technical AI safety research; and well-resourced institutions for coping with the dramatic economic and political disruptions (especially to democracy) that AI will cause.
The open letter is primarily concerned with ChatGPT/GPT-4+ but some of that applies to image generation.

AI doomer and known lolcow Eliezer Yudkowsky didn't sign this letter because it didn't go far enough. Crosspost from his thread:

Time gives this guy a whole opinion piece to call for nuclear strikes and shit. What in the fuck??

These people sound like a bunch of grifters who want the government to strangle everything with some faggy bureaucracy in which they get paid to be the bureaucrats.

In a broad sense, he's right. AI technology means nothing good because it will almost assuredly be used for evil. All of these Big Tech corporations want to use it to put the boot in our faces forever.

I can't believe those evil capitalists would opt for getting the job done in 2-3 days at the cost of marginally lower quality and one of his employees having less fun. Truly beyond the pale. What's stopping this person from doing all that creating, sculpting and forming on his or her own time?
