There's certainly a dichotomy in reaction between generative AI art and generative AI writing, like others have said. Whether it's because of the "consumability" of pictures over works of fiction on places like Twitter or the appearance of art AI making much faster leaps in quality over the past four years, I'm not sure. You could even make the same arguments against AI with companies using datasets scraped from placing like Ao3, but the reaction (outside a few professional authors signing onto class-actions) is a lot more muted. I imagine at least part of it is because the people writing these things are much less likely to be doing it on commission and thus have less hand-wringing over their well running dry.Recently, I was reminded of character.ai.
I noticed that, despite being AI, furries quite thoroughly enjoyed that character simulation service.
That same fandom hates on art-making AI.
